Present were Council Pres ident Lonni e L. Mi xon , Councilm embers : Debbie W. Quinn, Daniel Stankoski, Michael A. Ford, and Rick Kin g rea, Mayor Timothy M. Kant, and City C lerk Lisa A. Hanks. C ity Attorney Marion E. Wynne was abse nt. Counci l Pres id ent Mixo n ca ll ed the meeting to order at 5:36 p.m. The fo ll owing topic s were di sc u ssed : • Counci I Pres ident Mixon mentioned th e Alabama D e partm ent of Revenue (ADOR) for the 20 12 Weather Preparedness Tax Holiday purs u ant to Act No. 20 12-256. The deadline for adopting a reso lution or ordinance is in June ; and to notify ADOR b y June 22, 20 12 of the deci s ion . • May or Kant and Ken Es la va gave a bri ef update on the micro-surfac in g project for the streets. The bids are o ut ri g ht now for th is project. Mr. Es lava mentioned we u sed $1.6 milli on on th e paving and str ipin g project. • Counci lm ember Quinn s tated that Dr. Feng's report is in on th e bacteria s tud y , but the contract en d s tomorrow with Auburn Univers ity . She sai d a motion to extend this contract for 60 days needed to be added to the agenda tonight. Th is extension is needed in order for Dr. Feng to present the report to the C ity Council. • Counci lm ember Kingrea s tated h e ha s concern s regardin g th e K-1 playground. The park is not safe and still open; a nd s u ggest e d the City shut the gates for liability issues . Mayor Kant replied tha t the Building D epartm ent surveyed th e playground for unsafe items and corrected the item s that were mentioned. The Building Official reported that the playgro und is now s afe. • Gregg Mims mentioned the fo llow in g it ems needed to be added to the agenda tonight: a reso luti on to rescind the contract for re ntal serv ices fo r Water Department Unifon11s; and to promote a Police Offi cer to P atrol Sergeant and to fill vacanc y for Correction s Office r for the Police Depa rtment. • The park at the b eac h was di sc u ssed regarding safety issu es. C hi ef Press sa id he was down manpowe r and try ing to fill the vo id s. The Poli ce D epartm e nt was purchasing an electric car for a full-time officer in the downtown area in c ludin g the park. An e lectri c car would be more attractive to downtown Fairhope.
