HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-14-2016 City Council Work Session Meeting MinutesSTATE OF ALABAMA )( COUNTY OF BALDWIN )( The City Council met in a Work Session at 4:30 p.m., Delchamps Room, 161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Monday, 14 March 2016. Present were Council President Jack Burrell, Councilmembers: Diana Brewer (arrived at 4:36 p.m.), Michael A. Ford, and Kevin Boone, Mayor Timothy M. Kant (arrived at 5:36 p.m.). City Attorney Marion E. Wynne, and City Clerk Lisa A. Hanks. Councilmember Rich Mueller was absent. Council President Burrell called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. The following topics were discussed: • Henry Steimle and Charlene Lee addressed the City Council regarding an Eagle Scout Project to construct a kiosk for the "Walking School Bus" to help with signing in the children. This will be behind the Library with a spot by the Writing Cottage. The consensus of the City Council was to move forward and allow the Eagle Scout Project. City Attomey Wynne was requested to prepare a resolution to be added to the City Council agenda. • Joe McEnemey, Chairman of the Airport Authority, addressed the City Council and gave an update on the Airport. Mr. McEnerney mentioned the goals and strategies; recent Airport activity; financial overview; development of East side of the Airport; commercial development on West side of the Airport; and challenges facing the Airport Authority. • Councilmember Brewer said the Recreation Board will be discussing the tennis courts bid and recommendation. She stated that the Education Advisory Committee met and Akribos gave an update on the academic audit. They have presented great information so far and the top 10 school systems were discussed. • Councilmember Boone commented the Harbor Board and the Personnel Board have not met. • Council President Burrell mentioned that the owners of Shux on the Pier would like to keep the restaurant open on the Fourth of July. City Staff said they would have to look into this issue and report back. • Councilmember Ford briefly mentioned the Recycling Committee and the Fairhope Environmental Advisory Board. He commented on the manly Road Sidewalk Project and the presented a map from the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation. • Council President Burrell stated the Industrial Development Board will meet next week. He said the Sister Cities Committee met and discussed a partnership with the International Sister Cities.
