HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-20-2016 Council Meeting MinutesSTATE OF ALABAMA )( COUNTY OF BALDWIN )( The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 6:00 p.m., Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber, 161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Monday. 20 June 2016. Present were Councilmembers: Rich Mueller, Diana Brewer, and Kevin Boone, City Attorney Marion E. Wynne, and City Clerk Lisa A. Hanks. Council President Jack Burrell, Councilmember Michael A. Ford, and Mayor Timothy M. Kant were absent. There being a quorum present, Acting Council Pro Tern Brewer called the meeting to order. The invocation was given by Reverend William Parsons, Pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Councilmember Boone moved to approve minutes of the 27 May 2016, regular meeting; minutes of the 27 May 2016, work session; minutes of the 27 May 2016 agenda meeting; and minutes of the 9 June 2016, special-called City Council meeting. Seconded by Councilmember Mueller, motion passed unanimously by voice vote. Acting Council Pro Tern Brewer stated there was a need to add on two agenda items after Agenda Item Number 11: (1) a resolution that the City of Fairhope has voted to purchase Copper SIMPULL THNN #6 and #4 Wire for the Electric Department Inventory (E-16168 and E-16169); and authorizes procurement without formal bid based on the option allowed by the Code of Alabama 1975, Section 41-16- 51(b)(7). And, due to the volatility of the copper market and open market vendors will not hold their quotes for longer than two days. The City Council approves the purchase up to a not-to-exceed cost of $45,000.00; and (2) a resolution that Mayor Timothy M. Kant is hereby authorized to execute Change Order No. 1 to Project No. PW002-16, Maintenance Paving in Fairhope, in the amount of $18,348.25, and award the Change Order to John G. Walton Construction Company. Please note Change Order No. 1 is for milling and overlay of parking lot at the Eastern Shore Art Center which is used for overflow parking for numerous events for the City of Fairhope; and that the Eastern Shore Art Center serves a public purpose and allowing the City to use their parking lot for this overflow parking is a public service. Councilmember Boone moved to add on the above mentioned item not on the printed agenda. Seconded by Councilmember Mueller, motion passed unanimously by voice vote. Councilmember Boone announced that the arrangements for Mayor Kant's mother, Jane Kant, would be Friday July 1, 2016 with visitation at 9:00 a.m. and a service at 10:00 a.m. This will held at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home.
