HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-11-2016 City Council Meeting MinutesSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN )( The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 6:00 p.m., Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber, 161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Thursday. 11 February 2016. Present were Council President Jack Burrell, Councilmembers: Rich Mueller, Diana Brewer, Michael A. Ford, and Keyin Boone, Mayor Timothy M. Kant, City Attorney Marion E. Wynne, and Jennifer Olmstead. There being a quorum present. Council President Burrell called the meeting to order. The inyocation was giyen by Assistant Pastor Rev. Andrew Lehman of Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Councilmember Boone moved to approve minutes of the 25 January 2016, regular meeting; minutes of the 25 January 2016, work session; and minutes of the 25 January 2016, agenda meeting. Seconded by Councilmember Ford, motion passed unanimously by voice vote. Councilmember Boone stated there was a need to add on one agenda item after Agenda Item Number 18: a Resolution to purchase Playground Equipment for Volanta Part (Upgrade Volanta Park Playground Equipment, Project No. REC 004- 16) for the Recreation Department and the requested equipment is available for direct procurement through the U. S. Communities Buying Group Contract; and therefore does not have to be let out for bid. The cost is $21,036.71. This project is being funded by the Rotary Club of Fairhope in an amount not to exceed $25,000.00. Mayor Kant addressed the City Council by recognizing the hard work of the City's Public Works and Utility departments during our Mardi Gras season. Everything went off without a hitch and clean-up was done in record time. Also, Mayor Kant spoke about the Get Fit Fairhope program. The following individual addressed the City Council during Public Participation for Agenda Items: 1) Courtney Klotz, 23776 Montrose Woods Drive with the Zachary A. Moore Foundation addressed the City Council regarding Item Number 13: the request to use the street of Fairhope for their Race to Success on April 9, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on North Beach Road and City Streets per Map; and use of South Park. Mrs. Klotz gave a background synopsis on the Zachary A. Moore Foundation and how the proceeds from this race will be used to fund their scholarship and grant programs.
