COUNTY OF BALDWIN )(
The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at
12:00 p.m., Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber,
161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on
Friday. 27 May 2016.
Present were Council President Jack Burrell, Councilmembers: Diana Brewer
and Keyin Boone, Mayor Timothy M. Kant, City Attorney Marion E. Wynne, and
City Clerk Lisa A. Hanks. Councilmembers: Rich Mueller and Michael A. Ford were
absent.
There being a quorum present, Council President Burrell called the meeting to
order at 12:10 p.m. The inyocation was giyen Deacon George Yeend, of St.
Lawrence Catholic Church, and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Councilmember Brewer moyed to approye minutes of the 9 May 2016, regular
meeting; minutes of the 9 May 2016, work session; and minutes of the 9 May 2016,
agenda meeting. Seconded by Councilmember Boone, motion passed unanimously
by voice vote.
Mayor Kant addressed the City Council and commented we have a great
Memorial Day holiday planned with the Baldwin Pops playing at 6:30 p.m. on the
bluff. There will also be a Monday Memorial Ceremony for our veterans.
John Saraceno addressed the City Council regarding the "Siren Warning
System" which is an alert system for storms. He said this siren is already in place,
but just needs to be reactivated. Mr. Saraceno stated there is a need for this to be in
place for super cell storms with winds in excess of 60 miles per hour and for
tornados. He announced there will be a test on June 7, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.; and then
will be tested on a monthly basis.
Arthur Bosarge, Assistant Public Works Director, addressed the City Council
regarding the Zika virus and mosquitoes. Mr. Bosarge stated the virus has been found
six hours from Fairhope. He said that on June 14, 2016 the City will have a larvicide
tablet distribution at City Hall. Mayor Kant commented if you find brown
mosquitoes in your yard then you have standing water within 100 feet nearby.
Council President Burrell stated there was a need to add on an agenda item
after Agenda Item Number 9: a Resolution that the proposed Masonic Site Plan by
Jade Consulting, LLC for the parking lot west of Masonic Drive is hereby approved.
Councilmember Boone moved to add on the above mentioned item not on the
printed agenda. Seconded by Councilmember Brewer, motion passed unanimously
by voice vote.
