COUNTY OF BALDWIN )(
The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at
6:00 p.m., Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber,
161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on
Monday. 10 September 2018.
Present were Council President Pro Tempore Jay Robinson, Councilmembers:
Jimmy Conyers, Robert Brown and Kevin Boone, Mayor Karin Wilson, City
Attorney Marcus E. McDowell, and City Clerk Lisa A. Hanks. Council President
Jack Burrell was absent.
There being a quorum present. Council President Pro Tempore Robinson
called the meeting to order. Gray Strickland, Pastor of Rivertown Community
Church, and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Councilmember Boone moved to
approve minutes of the 24 August 2018, Special Called City Council meeting,
minutes of the 27 August 2018, regular meeting; minutes of the 27 August 2018,
work session; and minutes of the 27 August 2018, agenda meeting. Seconded by
Councilmember Conyers, motion passed unanimously by voice vote.
Mayor Wilson addressed the City Council regarding the following items:
1) The Fairhope Police Department will have a week-long "Honor through
Service Event" this week;
2) Thanked all employees for their efforts with Hurricane Gordon. It was a test
and protect event. She stated the City needs a FEMA approved shelter for on-
call employees;
3) New signage at the beach on the vibrio virus;
4) Frequently Asked Questions on City website and adding to the list all of the
time;
5) Pocket Park at the Fairhope Public Library now has a Butterfly Mural on the
wall;
6) Monarch Pledge to help save these butterflies;
7) New Museum Director, Philip Bowlin, has been hired and will begin tomorrow
to train with Donnie Barrett who retires October 1, 2018;
8) Tuesday at Centennial Hall will be "Fairhope Stories" at 5:30 p.m.;
9) November 9, 2018 will be the first City Golf Tournament with an entrance fee
of $60.00;
10) September 25, 2018 at the James P. Nix Center will be free flu vaccine and
balance testing;
11) National Assisted Living Week is September 9, 2018 through September 15,
2018 with the theme being "Capture the Moment;"
12) Smart Growth Grant awarded to the City of Fairhope;
13) City of Fairhope made the Cute Small-Town list;
14) Mayor Wilson asked everyone to remember the Glaize family who lost Curtis
Glaize in an accident and to have a moment of silence for them.
