HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-08-2018 City Council Meeting MinutesSTATE OF ALABAMA )( COUNTY OF BALDWIN )( The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 6:00 p.m., Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber, 161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Monday. 8 October 2018. Present were Council President Jack Burrell, Councilmembers: Jay Robinson, Jimmy Conyers, Robert Brown, and Kevin Boone, Mayor Karin Wilson, City Attorney Marcus E. McDowell, and City Clerk Lisa A. Hanks. Councilmember Robert Brown was absent. There being a quorum present. Council President Burrell called the meeting to order. The invocation was given by Pastor Rick Malugani of Fairhope Christian Church, and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Councilmember Robinson moved to approve minutes of the 19 September 2018, work session/budget meeting; minutes of the 19 September 2018, special city council meeting; minutes of the 24 September 2018, regular meeting; minutes of the 24 September 2018, work session; and minutes of the 24 September 2018, agenda meeting. Seconded by Councilmember Conyers, motion passed unanimously by voice vote. Council President Burrell announced that Agenda Item Number 11 was being pulled from the Agenda. Mayor Wilson addressed the City Council regarding the following items: 1) Mentioned a new book for sale, "Fairhope Stories" that is available in the museum store; and during the Fairhope Film Festival is Michael Marr's new documentary also entitled Fairhope Stories but not related to the book will be coming to the Museum; 2) Donnie Barrett, longtime director of the Fairhope Museum of History retired a week ago today: 3) At one of our recent supervisors' meetings, Darby Wiik from our history museum, presented the Curator's Corner. She had items from the days J. B. Gaston, our founder. In telling his story she informed us that he was known as "the darling of Fairhope;" 4) Officer David Miller will now serve as one of our School Resource Officers; 5) In honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Pink Palooza was held today at the Nix Center and was a resounding success; and I will also be joining a team of riders with Thomas Hospital As part of our first ever Witches Ride Pink Team for Breast Cancer Awareness; 6) Tree lights have been strung on our trees and testing will be completed this week. The Fairhope Tree Lighting will be held next month;
