COUNTY OF BALDWIN
The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at
6:00 p.m., Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber,
161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on
Monday, 13 January 2020.
Present were Council President Jack Burrell, Councilmembers: Jay Robinson,
Jimmy Conyers, Robert Brown, and Keyin Boone, Mayor Karin Wilson, City
Attorney Marcus E. McDowell, and City Clerk Lisa A. Hanks.
There being a quorum present, Council President Burrell called the meeting to
order. The inyocation was giyen by Councilmember Keyin Boone and the Pledge of
Allegiance was recited. Councilmember Conyers moyed to approye minutes of the
December 23, 2019, regular meeting. Seconded by Councilmember Robinson,
motion passed unanimously by yoice yote.
Mayor Wilson addressed the City Council regarding the State of the City on
February 6, 2020; and the brochure for same. She said the Department Heads have
been working hard on their part for that event.
Items:
The following individuals spoke during Public Participation for Agenda
1) Dan Stankoski, 205 White Avenue, addressed the City Council regarding Agenda
Item Number 26: a resolution that the City Council authorizes Mayor Karin Wilson
or Council President Jack Burrell, on behalf of the City of Fairhope and in
coordination with the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation, to purchase the property
located at the NE Comer of Fairhope Avenue and Section Street. Mr. Stankoski
stated this would preserve a portion of downtown; and a gathering place in the "Heart
of Downtown." He commented it is not about the size but a strategic location. Mr.
Stankoski thanked the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation for partnering with the City.
He said this is an iconic location for the City of Fairhope.
2) Debbie Quinn, 7172 Taylor Street, addressed the City Council regarding Agenda
Item Number 26: a resolution that the City Council authorizes Mayor Karin Wilson
or Council President Jack Burrell, on behalf of the City of Fairhope and in
coordination with the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation, to purchase the property
located at the NE Comer of Fairhope Avenue and Section Street. Ms. Quinn thanked
the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation and the City Council for this partnership and
working together. She thanked everyone for preserving this gathering place.
3) Gary Gover, 300 Lincoln Street, addressed the City Council regarding Agenda Item
Number 26: a resolution that the City Council authorizes Mayor Karin Wilson or
Council President Jack Burrell, on behalf of the City of Fairhope and in coordination
with the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation, to purchase the property located at the NE
Comer of Fairhope Avenue and Section Street.
