HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-13-2020 Work Session Meeting MinutesSTATE OF ALABAMA ) ( COUNTY OF BALDWIN ) ( The City Council met in a Work Session at 4:30 p.m., Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber, 161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Monday, 13 January 2020. Present were Council President Jack Burrell, Councilmembers: Jay Robinson (arrived at 4:50 p.m.), Jimmy Conyers, Robert Brown, and Kevin Boone, Mayor Karin Wilson (arrived at 4:53 p.m.). City Attorney Marcus E. McDowell, and City Clerk Lisa A. Hanks. Council President Burrell called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. The following topics were discussed: • Public Works Director Richard addressed the City Council regarding the Discussion of K-1 Roof Issues and Options. He presented three options: replacement of roof; repair roof; and HDPE membrane. Council President Burrell suggested getting a quote from Roof Doctors who we have used several times. The consensus of the City Council was Option #2 or Roof Doctors. • The Discussion with Brandon Goertz, a representative from the film "Map of Tiny Perfect Things," and Community Affairs Director Jessica Walker was next on the agenda. Mr. Goertz explained that this is an Amazon Prime movie; and a heart-felt love story. He said they would be working 10 hour days and explained in detail the shooting/filming process. Ms. Walker said the filming crew would be leasing a portion of the Pecan Avenue Building. Council President Burrell commented he was concemed with the street closures and hours needed to be closed. Mr. Goertz said he will meet with the business owners and explain the whole process; and will get sign-off from each. He gave an example of another movie in Southport in Tybee Island; and in the movie the town was called Southport Town. Councilmember Robinson suggested leaving pedestrian traffic open. Council President Burrell suggested meeting with the Downtown Merchants Association. Mr. Goertz and Ms. Walker are to give an update at the next City Council Work Session. • Water and Sewer Superintendent Jay Whitman addressed the City Council regarding the Discussion of the Mullet Fountain. He said the artist wants to help with the repair; and the fountain needs major repairs. Mr. Whitman commented some repairs can be done in house, but others with outside vendors. Council President Burrell said he and Councilmember Brown will meet with Mr. Whitman and the artist at the fountain to see what needs to be done. • Fire Chief Chris Ellis addressed the City Council and announced the 2020 Board of Directors for the Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department: Chris Ellis - Chief; David Thomas - Assistant Chief; Dalton Combs - Assistant Chief; Rick Stuardi - Secretary; and Mark Poillucci - Treasurer.
