Recreation Project Updates: Pat White informed the Board of the following updates: • The Fairhope Pool Rehabilitation project: The building interior is completed and looks great. The pool was filled back up with the help of the Water department and the Fire department. It took roughly 15 hours and 164,000 gallons of water. Once the pumps were fired back up to circulate and treat the water, one of the large filter tanks failed and was leaking water in the pump room and blowing sand into the pool. Our staff contacted several local pool companies and the manufacturer of that brand of tank, to discuss options for repair. The tanks were manufactured in the year 2000 and were deemed unrepairable by all sources. Staff then contacted 9 different pool companies to get quotes and availability of new tanks and installation. I have asked for the issue to be added to Monday night’s agenda in the interest of time. • A pedestrian walkway and parking improvement project here at Volanta Park is nearing completion. This will include a traffic table that crosses over the roadway from the pool to the entrance of the baseball fields, a designated walkway with improved parking spaces that leads to the entrance of the baseball fields and the visitors’ entrance to the stadium. It also has curbing to protect the live oak tree outside the outdoor pool. We will add landscaping, benches, etc. later. • The Barnwell complex is being utilized weekly now by youth football for practicing and youth cheer will begin practicing there this week as well. We are making improvements to the parking areas with designated roadways with signage. The bathrooms in the old building by the new fields got a facelift with new paint, epoxy flooring, sinks, toilets, and partition doors. • Founders youth softball had new shade fabric installed on the bleacher shade structures. They are now Fairhope Blue and were custom made to fit the framework. Recreational Operations Updates: Pat White informed the Board of the following updates: • FHS held their Meet the Pirates scrimmage game last Friday night. • The first varsity home game is next Friday, August 28th. There is a middle school game on Monday night and Freshman/JV game on Thursday night next week. • Youth football has a scheduled jamboree at the Barnwell complex on Saturday, August 29th. • Youth baseball will host a fundraising tournament here at Volanta on Saturday, August 29th and a homerun derby on Sunday, August 30 th. • Founders Funfest Day got off to a good start before the weather decided to rain on our parade. I would like to thank Cole for all his efforts in organizing, planning, and marketing for the event. Also, would like to thank Debra for stepping up without hesitation to be a part of a live television interview on Fox 10 to promote the event and the youth softba ll program. We had many of our park’s maintenance staff present as well as 6 lifeguards to help.
