The Fairhope Recreation Board met on Wednesday , June 17th , 2026 , at 5 :15 p .m. at the
Recreation Center, 803 N. Greeno Road , Fairhope , Alabama.
Present: Pat W hite , Cathy Hudson , Josh Warren , Mike Baugh , Robert Jernigan , Debra
Flowers , Scott Berry , Jay Robinson , Cole Wagner, and Mary Lee Matzenger. Absent:
Charlie Langha m, Ja rred Richa rdson, and Andrea Booth .
The meeting was called to order by Mike Baugh at 5 :20 p.m. The minutes of the May
20th , 2026 , meeting were considered and approved on a motion by Cathy Hudson ,
seconded by Josh Warren , none opposed.
Gue sts : Earline Harris, Calvin and Cordero Dade , all with A labama Basketball Society.
A brief presentation was given about the possibility of starting an adult recreational
basketball league.
Recreat ion Project Updates: Pat Wh ite informed the Board of the following
updates:
• The Fairhope Rehabilitation project: Scaffolding will begin to be dismantled next week;
it is around a 2-week process. The concrete specialist contracto r will move in and
refurb ish the pool deck surface w hile the GC is cleani ng up the bu ilding and performing
additional work on the exterior . The bat hrooms have been updated with new partitions.
We are excited to see the finished product.
• Work is ongo ing on the Barnwell football fields project. The upper field was planted
last week and the lower field needed add itional; grade work and will begin insta ll ing
irrigat ion and sod once we get a break in the rain . Once the sod is in p lace , both fie lds
will be fenced in , and work will beg in on roadways and walkways .
Rec reational Operations Updates: Pat White informed the Board of the following
updates:
• The 8u District tournament was held 2 weekends ago. Aside from the rain that
interrupted play on that Saturday , the tournament went very we ll and our park and staff
received many compliments.
• Meetings, plann ing , and budget discuss ions with the last severa l weeks as final budget
request numbers are due this week . Meetings with Mayo r, Treasu ry , and Council start
next week.
• Congratulations to Cathy Hudson and Scott Berry o n ret i ri ng f rom teaching and
coaching , as we wish them we ll on their next journey.
Recreational Old Business:
• Discussion was held regarding how to best enforce our sports agreements.
• Discussion was held regarding the Volanta gym project, i.e . what are the first steps in
getting this started (budget, engineering , etc.)
• General discussion was held regarding updating our facility fees.
Being no further business , the meeting was adjourned at 6:48 p.m .
