Home My WebLink About01-14-2026 Tree Committee Meeting Minutes Tree Committee Meeting January 13, 2026 3 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room 161 N Section Street Members present: Paul Fontenot, Joanne Hogan, Audra Warren, Carol Sullivan, May Moss Parker, Skip Jones and Will Mastin. Absent: Craig Tappan, Knox McMurphy & Councilmember Joshua Gammon. Guest: Biology Professor Sherry Herron. Paul Fontenot called the meeting to order at 3:01 p.m. The Minutes of the meeting for May 8, 2025, August 13, 2025 & November 12, 2025 were considered and approved with a motion by Skip Jones, seconded by May Moss Parker, and unanimously passed. Guest Biology Professor Sherry Herron Sherry Herron attended the meeting to share her suggestion of taking care of the Spanish Moss and expanding it to the trees on Veteran’s Drive. Will Mastin commented that this would be a volunteer driven effort and could promote its native beauty and ability to expand it in our City. It was discussed that Biology Professor Sherry Herron Sherry Herron will have a table at Arbor Day to educated and promote Spanish Moss to the community, it was considered and approved with a motion by Skip Jones, seconded by Carol Sullivan, and unanimously passed. There was general discussion about Arbor Day, Arbor Day Awards, the poster contest judging and recognizing the contractor that created the roundabout by the flower clock publicly during Arbor Day. Tree Committee meeting dates were set for 2026: May 7, 2026; August 13, 2026 and November 5, 2026 Will Mastin and Paul Fontenot shared that they would like to propose a tree/landscape ordinance meeting with the planning and zoning regarding the suggested changes to the ordinance. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:03 p.m.
