Minutes of the Fairhope Recreation Board
The Fairhope Recreation Board met on Wednesday, April 15th, 2026, at 5:15 p.m. at the
Recreation Center, 803 N. Greeno Road, Fairhope, Alabama.
Present: Pat White, Cathy Hudson, Charlie Langham, Josh Warren, Mike Baugh, Robert
Jernigan, Jarred Richardson, Debra Flowers, Scott Berry, Jay Robinson, Cole Wagner,
and Mary Lee Matzenger. Absent: Andrea Booth.
The meeting was called to order by Mike Baugh at 5:15 p.m. The minutes of the March
18, 2026, meeting were considered and approved on a motion by Charlie Langham,
seconded by Josh Warren, none opposed.
Guests: Earline Harris, Calvin and Cordero Dade, all with Alabama Basketball Society.
A brief presentation was given about the possibility of starting an adult recreational
basketball league.
Recreation Project Updates: Pat White informed the Board of the following
updates:
• The Fairhope Pool Rehabilitation project was making great progress. There were some
unforeseen complications in the last couple of weeks that slowed our progress. We are
still hopeful of being back in the pool before July.
• Work is going on the Barnwell football fields project. Irrigation is being installed,
finished grading, and sod will begin to be installed next week.
• New bathroom building at the 5u and 6u fields is in its final stages of completion. It
should be fully operational in time for the district tournament we are hosting in June.
Recreational Operations Updates: Pat White informed the Board of the following
updates:
• FHS Graduation was this Monday night. Parking was a nightmare.
• FHS Football held a Spring scrimmage game against Saraland last week and a cornhole
fundraiser event in the stadium the week before.
• The Fun day event that we were hosting to benefit youth softball was postponed due to
inclement weather and will be rescheduled for August 8, 2026.
• Working on new capital budget items for fiscal year 27. Requesting to meet with all
league board members next week about the things they would like to see in
improvements.
• Hosting an all-star warmup tournament this weekend for FYB – ages 6, 7, and 8. Will
be hosting a district tournament in June.
• 15u baseball is wrapping their final week of games on the varsity field.
• Flag football games are ongoing in Barnwell.
Recreational Old Business:
• Discussion was had regarding updating the five-year plan to include moving the current
skate park, parking issues at Volanta, and the costs of making the area where the skate
park is now, into a multipurpose building that would include a home side locker room on
the bottom floor. Charlie made a Motion to accept the new five-year plan to include all of
the above, and 2nd by Scott Berry, none opposed.
• Updates are coming along with the development of the sports agreement and facility
fees study.
Recreational New Business:
• Discussion was had regarding a franchise agreement application from Mary Lee
Matzenger to provide tennis lessons at the Mike Ford Tennis Center. Charlie Langham
made a Motion to send the franchise agreement concern directly to City Council for
approval, and 2nd by Josh Warren, with Robert Jernigan opposing.
• Discussion was had regarding consequences for leagues not providing the city with
their yearly financials, and consequences for not completing their Coach Safely training.
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:48 p.m.
