The Fairhope Recreation Board met on Wednesday, March 18th, 2026, at 5:15 p.m. at the
Recreation Center, 803 N. Greeno Road, Fairhope, Alabama.
Present: Pat White, Cathy Hudson, Charlie Langham, Josh Warren, Mike Baugh, Scott Berry,
Robert Jernigan, Cole Wagner, Jay Robinson, Jarred Richardson, and Debra Flowers. Absent:
Mary Lee Matzenger and Andrea Booth.
The meeting was called to order by Mike Baugh at 5:15 p.m. The minutes of the January 21st,
2026, meeting were considered and approved on a motion by Charlie Langham, seconded by
Cathy Hudson, none opposed.
Guests: Fairhope Youth Cheerleading and David Portener
Recreation Project Updates: Pat White informed the Board of the following updates:
•The Fairhope Pool Rehabilitation project is underway. Scaffolding is still being constructed as
it has been in the last few weeks. Once scaffolding is in place, work will begin on the metal
framework of the building and the ceiling.
•The pavilion structure at the soccer complex is mostly complete. Electrical is installing lights
and outlets.
•Chain link fence backstops on the 6u and 15u fields were replaced with brick and netting. Thank
you to FYB for purchasing all the brick for those projects.
•The batting cage structure at Founders youth softball is complete. Nets and artificial turf have
been ordered and will be installed when received. A new artificial turf pitching station will be
installed in the next few weeks.
•The pavilion structure for youth football in Barnwell will start this Monday. It should take a few
weeks to complete. The irrigation, sod, and other materials to build the fields were bid out and
will be in soon for us to begin the construction of the new flag football fields.
Recreational Operations Updates:
•Held Special Olympics last Friday. An annual event that benefits all Baldwin County schools.
•Decision was had regarding recreation and social media posts, and the importance of
communication.
•After discussion was had, Robert Jernigan made a motion to recommend to council that we
provide $3k in funds to offset the costs of FAST possibly having to use Bishop State for summer
swim team, at the discretion of our city attorney, Josh Warren 2nd motion, none opposed.
•Charlie Langham made a motion to recommend the Fairhope City Council accept the most
recent Phase One recommendations from Gonzalez-Strength & Associates (GSA) as the final
requirements of GSA’s contract with the City of Fairhope. The Phase One recommendations from
GSA are not being approved by the Recreation Board as a final plan or recommendation to the
City Council for construction. The Phase One plans will be further considered by the Recreation
Board and City Council as funding is available to begin development of the City property at
Highway 13 and 32 in Fairhope.
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:41 p.m.
