HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-11-2026 Fairhope Historic Preservation Commission Meeting MinutesSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN )( )( Fairhope Historic Preservation Commission, City Council, City of Fairhope, met at 3:30 p.m., Fairhope Museum of History, 24 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532 , on Wednesday, February 11 , 2026. Present were Chair Mara Hunter; Members: Amy Molyneux, Skip Jones , Dannie Mixon, Alan Samry, Susan Stein, Ginger Golson, Staff Liaison Erik Cortinas (Building Official), and City Clerk Lisa A. Hanks. Council Liaison Jay Robinson was absent. There being a quorum present, Chair Hunter called the meeting to order at 3:35 p .m . Chair Hunter asked the Commissioners to review the January 14 , 2026 meeting minutes. Commissioner Molyneux moved to approve the minutes of the January 14 , 2026 . Seconded by Commissioner Golson, motion passed unanimousl y by voice vote. The next item on the agenda was a History Day Recap. Chair Hunter said this was a phenomenal success. Commissioner Golson thanked everyone for their help . The Commission briefly discussed next year changes, remaining certificates, checks , and presentation at the City Council meeting . Next year 's date was discussed and January 14, 2027 through January 23 , 2027 was suggested . Commissioner Molyneux moved to set the date for next y ear 's History Day events from January 14 , 2027 through January 23 , 2027 . Seconded by Commissioner Golson , motion passed unanimously by voice vote . Chair Hunter said we need to involve the Friends of the Museum for catering and prizes, new Special Prize Category for a project regarding Fairhope ; and another Special Prize Category for project regarding History Preservation. She said we w ill have a Presentation at the City Council meeting on March 9, 2026 to award checks to the winning students . Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church was mentioned fo r being over 102 years old ; and needs an "Historic Marker." Building Official Erik Cortinas gave an update on the Demolition Review Ordinance . He said the City Council introduced the Ordinance at the February 9, 2026 meeting ; and it will be up for final adoption on February 19, 2026 . Mr. Cortinas also gave an update on the CLG status ; and said the City Council must appro v e. Fairhope Historic Preservation Commission Wednesday, February 11 , 2026 Page -2- Commissioner Mixon hit the highlights on his Demolition Review slide show. Chair Hunter stated the Demolition Review is for education, showcase property with pictures , address , history, and IEBC slides. Mr. Cortinas said we need to focus on the application process ; and the IEBC slides will show definition , allowances , and limitations . Chair Hunter said the Consultant Update was next on the agenda; and we need to clarify the scope of work : (1) Prepare a package and materials for the Fairhope Historic Preservation Commission to use ; (2) Research local incentives to propose that are most effective for Fairhope ; and (3) Prepare survey form . She said the Fairhope Historic Preservation Commission has the expertise and know how to certify historic homes and buildings. Mr. Cortinas commented we need incentives for Fairhope now, personalize these , and have a marketing package . Commissioner Jones also agreed that we need to research . incentives for Fairhope. After further discussion, Commissioner Jones moved to adopt the Scope of Work as presented. Seconded by Commissioner Golson, motion passed unanimously by voice vote. Commissioner Sarnry mentioned the Kathy Donaldson 2006 survey ; and said we need to recognize her Commissioner Jones moved to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Commissioner M Molyneux, motion passed unanimously by v oice vote. There being no further business to come before the Fairhope Historic Preservation Commission, the meeting was duly adjourned at 4:57 p.m .
