Greeno Road, Fairhope, AL • Call to order • Review and approval of previous meeting minutes • Introduction and comments from guests (if any) • Operational report from Pat White • Update on softball field issue with shade covers (if not covered by Pat’s report) • New Business o Presentation from Cheer organization o Review Hwy. 13/32 project and present recommendation to Council to accept. (This action is required to close out the current contract with the design firm. We are not necessarily adopting the plan but simply saying we have received their design and recommend the Council close out the contract. Further development of the plan will take place as funding is available.) o Discuss recommendation from FAST swim team regarding help with fees to use alternate swim location during pool renovation. o Other? • Old Business o Possible reconsideration of facility fees, including baseline position and priorities for facility use. o Confirm creation of new Disciplinary/Complaint Resolution Committee to address player/coach/league board issues, including first contact. o Update regarding development of common operating procedure for each sports program. • Review five-year plan updates - Cathy Hudson • Report from League/Facilities Liaisons • General comments from Board, Mayor, Council Liaisons Adjourn Schedule of Future Meetings Note: Regular meetings are on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 5:15 p.m. in the Meeting Room at the Recreation Center, 803 North Greeno Road, Fairhope, AL Next meeting: April 15th, 2026 City of Fairhope Recreation Department Mission Statement: To offer the citizens of Fairhope the best and safest recreational facilities in all sports and leisure. Minutes of the Fairhope Recreation Board The Fairhope Recreation Board met on Wednesday, January 21st, 2026, at 5:15 p.m. at the James P. Nix Center, 1 Bayou Drive, Fairhope, Alabama. Present: Pat White, Cathy Hudson, Charlie Langham, Josh Warren, Mike Baugh, Scott Berry, Robert Jernigan, Cole Wagner, Jay Robinson, and Mary Lee Matzenger. Absent: Debra Flowers, Jarred Richardson, and Andrea Booth. The meeting was called to order by Mike Baugh at 5:22 p.m. The minutes of the December 18th, 2025, meeting were considered and approved on a motion by Charlie Langham, seconded by Cathy Hudson, none opposed. Guests: Youth league members, St. Michael’s tennis coaching staff (spoke on lowering the fees at the Mike Ford Tennis Center), Mr. and Mrs. Gary Gover Mike Baugh introduced our two new Rec Board Members, Robert Jernigan and Jarred Richardson, along with our two new City Council Rec Board liaisons, Jay Robinson and Andrea Booth. Recreation Project Updates: Pat White informed the Board of the following updates: • Kid’s Park (new shade structure/swing sets) are currently being installed, along with adding additional concrete to the walkways, painting, landscaping, etc. • The Fairhope Pool Rehabilitation project should be starting around the 30th of January. For anyone who currently has a pool membership during the close down period, we will just freeze their membership. The structural work is expected to take around 17 weeks. • The city welder is assisting us at Founders youth softball fields with the shade structures over the bleacher areas. • The wooden outfield wall on the 6u field that will have our own version of a Green Monster in left field is now underway, along with the brick backstops on both the 6u and 15u fields. • Work has begun on the high school baseball dugout and should be completed soon. Recreational Operations Updates: • Discussion was held regarding reducing the fees at the Mike Ford Tennis Center for St. Michael’s to $25/per court/per hour. Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:49 p.m. with the Rec Summit to follow.
