Fairhope Historic Preservation Commission,
City Council, City of Fairhope, met at
3:30 p.m., Fairhope Museum of History,
24 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532,
on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
Present were Chair Mara Hunter; Members: Amy Molyneux, Skip Jones, Dannie
Mixon, Alan Samry, Susan Stein, Ginger Golson, Staff Liaison Erik Cortinas
(Building Official), and City Clerk Lisa A. Hanks. Council Liaison Jay Robinson
were absent.
There being a quorum present, Chair Hunter called the meeting to order at 3 :34 p.m.
Chair Hunter asked the Commissioners to review the October 15, 2025 meeting
minutes. Commissioner Jones moved to approve the minutes of the October 15, 2025.
Seconded by Commissioner Molyneux, motion passed unanimously by voice vote.
Chair Hunter recognized the newest member of the FHPC Alan Samry who
introduced himself to the FHPC.
Chair Hunter brought up Teams training and the need to work on Teams. She
mentioned the Demolition Review Procedures will be discussed at the December 8,
2025 City Council Work Session. City Clerk Lisa Hanks was asked to send the Mayor
and City Council the draft for them to review prior to the meeting. Commissioner
Jones said we need to enumerate the changes based on the Council's comments.
Chair Hunter brought up the CLG status and said the City Council has to adopt
changes to get the CLG; and since Federal funding has been cut, we need to put this
on hold. Commissioner Molyneux said the goal to is to adopt the Demolition Review
Procedures and the Certified Local Government. She said we need to mention the
CLG to new Councilmembers; and we need to get these two items resolved.
Commissioner Golson went over History Day and commented that the goal is to have
25 High School and Middle School Exhibits. She said the National Theme is
Revolution. Commissioner Golson gave February 9, 2026 through February 13, 2026
for the kids to present their exhibits. First Friday, February 6, 2026, was suggested for
their presentations; and the Fairhope Museum of History will also be open.
Commissioner Golson mentioned that Regional History Day will be in Mobile at the
University of South Alabama.

Regional History Day will be in Mobile at the Univcnity of South Alabama.
Chair Hunter announced incentives and goals for 2026: State incentives, Federal
incentives, and Local incentives. Commissioner Jones suggested a cash incentive for
confonnance; and facades were mentioned. Commissioner Molyneux suggested
plaque, banner and shield, and metal sign in yard. Commissioner Stein said we could
help with research and provide services. Commissioner Jones suggested assistance
with paying for the banner and shield. Commissioner Samry said that when Harriet
Gutknecht was on the Committee some buildings already have one. He commented
businesses agreed to put banner and shield on buildings, but residents would not.
Chair Hunter said maybe we could propose a discount on building fees.
Building Official Cortinas asmounccd there are six historic buildings being renovated
at this time. He said there is $30,000.00 for a consultant to perform a study.
Chair Hunter stated that at the next meeting we can look at Work Session and look
through consulting services. The hardware store building was discussed; and Mr.
Cortinas said they are scheduled to be on the December Planning Commission. He
said the developers met this week to discuss plans. Chair Hunter suggested for some
of the Commission to attend the meeting.
Commissioner Molyneux said she sent an America 250 e-mail to Mayor Sullivan and
she forwarded it to Community Affairs Director Paige Crawford. Commissioner
Samry said that Tina Powers will be at the Fairhope Public Library on March 26,
2026 for the FSTC Lecture Series.
Commissioner Jones moved to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Commissioner
Golson, motion passed unanimously by voice vote.
There being no further business to come before the Fairhope Historic Preservation
Commission, the meeting was duly adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
