Monday, Ma rch 25, 2019
The meeting was held in the Fairhope Public Library Board Room. Martin Lanaux called the meeting to
order at 4:02 PM. Also in attendance were Dan Stankoski, Frieda Ward, Tamara Dean, and Alison Knight.
The February Meeting Minutes, Monthly Statist ica l Reports, Financial Statement and Employee Reports
were reviewed and app roved with al l voting in favor.
Dan Stankoski asked Tamara Dean when she would start preparing the li b rary budget. Tamara said she
would probably start in May. She will write to Mayor Wi lson and ask her when she needs the budget.
Dan Stankoski asked Tamara Dean about a letter she had forwarded from the Director of the Alabama
Pub lic Library Serv ice say i ng that "The Whit e house released its budget proposal for FY 2020. The
administration has p roposed to eliminate the Inst itute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) which
provides approximately $189.3 mill ion in d irect funding to libraries through the Library Services and
Techno logy Act (LSTA). The proposal also cuts Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL) program
administered by the Department of Education." Dan asked Tama ra what impact that this would have on
the Fairhope Public Library budget. Tamara w i ll look in to this.
Tamara Dean reported that a new Self-Check-Out station wil l be insta lled on Apri l 17, 2019. This is being
payed for by the Friends of the Fairhope Public Library.
Tamara Dean reported that library staff is working on a LSTA Grant for 2019 which would strengthen
commun ity history and preservation events. She reported on four upcoming programs:
1. Thursday, March 28 -Frazine Tay lor-African-American Geneology & Family History
Workshops. 1:30-3:30pm-Making the Slave connection and 5:30-7:30pm-Useful records for
overcoming the Challenges of African-American Genealogical Research
2. Wed nesday, April 10 at 2:00pm-Scanning Party (Patrons may bring persona l documents and
images for digitization).
3. Thursday, April 11, 5:30pm-Michael Marr will be showing the "Fa irhope Stories" fi lm.
4. Thursday, April 18, 10:30am-Pinky Bass wi l l present local and family history through
photographs.
Alan Samry is working on a LSTA Grant for 2020 for a Writing Center at the Fairhope Public Library.
Tamara Dean reported that Cheryl Bradley wi ll be retiring on Ap r il 30, 2019.
Tamara Dean reported that the repairs t o the build ing were almost comp lete with just some touch up
painting still to be done. The work trailer will be removed on Wednesday March 27 and test ing w ill take
place the first wee k in April.
Dan Stankoski asked Tamara Dean what ki nd of warrantee there was on the work. Tamara sa id there
was a 30 year warrantee on roof materials and 1 year for the contractor.
Dan Stankoski suggested that a thank you letter be written to The City of Fairhope for a job well done.
With no further business to discuss the meeting was adjourned at 4:48 PM. The next Library Board
