HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-11-1995 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA 0 COUNTY OF BALDWIN 0 The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 5:30 pm; Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber; 161 North Section Street; Fairhope, Alabama 36532; on Mondav, 11 September 1995. Present were Mayor James P. Nix; Councilmembers John V. Duck, Michael A. Ford, David E. Bishop, Jeanette Puckett, and Layton Overstreet; City Attorney Marion E. Wynne and City Clerk Evelyn Phillips. No one was absent. There being a quorum present, Mayor Nix called the meeting to order. Minutes of the 28 August 1995 regular session were duly approved. Council considered an application for a Beer Off -Premises License and a Wine Off -Premises License by Rick Merritt, dba MERRI MART #22, 9990 Hwy 104 at County Road 27. There was police approval of the application. No one present was op- posed to the licenses. Councilman Duck moved to approve the issuance of the licenses. Seconded by Councilwoman Puckett, motion passed unanimously. A petition from some 30 residents was read which requested two 4-way Stop Signs be placed in their neighborhood: one at White Avenue and Summit Street, and one at White Avenue and Church Street. After discussion, Mayor Nix asked the Street Committee (C. Overstreet, Supt. Kant, and Supt. Rutherford) to investigate and make a recommendation at the next regu- lar meeting. Mayor Nix announced there is an opening on the Recycling Committee for a 4-year term, and opened the floor for nomi- nations. Councilman Ford nominated Ms. Charlene Lee. There being no other nominations, Councilman Duck moved to close the nominations and appoint Ms. Lee by acclamation. Seconded by Councilman Overstreet, motion passed unanimously. The Mayor called for nominations for three 2-year terms on the Airport Board. Councilwoman Puckett moved to reappoint Ms. Susan Mason, Mr. Mike Baugh, and Mr. Robert Colling. There being no other nominations, Councilman Bishop moved to close the nominations and reappoint Mason, Baugh, and Colling by acclamation. Seconded by Councilman Duck, motion passed unanimously. Council took the following action on bids: • 11 September 1995 1699 TO CLEAN & PAINT INTERIOR & EXTERIOR OF 1,000,000 GALLON ELEVATED WATER TANK ON NICHOLS AVENUE Vender Price Start Date Professional Services Mobile $ 376,408 in 6 months Beckman & Beckman Huntsville $ 223,599 immediately Robinson Paint Haleyville $ 338,000 in 4 months It is recommended to accept the low bid by Beckman and Beckman at $223,599.00--M.Rejczyk --W. Seconded by Councilman Duck, motion passed unanimously: RESOLUTION NO. 495-95 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA, That Mayor James P. Nix is hereby authorized to execute a contract between the CITY and BECKMAN & BECKMAN, INC., of Huntsville, Alabama, to clean and paint the City's 1,000,000 gallon Elevated Water Tank located on Nichols Avenue, for the sum of $ 223,599.00. He and Mr. Shep Shephard said they hoped to be open in another month or two. The FAA Airport project is near completion, as is the renovations at the Golf Course Clubhouse.
