HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-28-1995 Regular Meeting1679 STATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 5:30 pm; Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber; 161 North Section Street; Fairhope, Alabama 36532; on Wednesdav, 28 June 1995. Present were Mayor James P. Nix; Councilmembers John V. Duck, David E. Bishop, Jeanette Puckett, and Layton Overstreet; City Attorney Marion E. Wynne and City Clerk Evelyn P. Phillips. Councilman Michael A. Ford was absent. There being a quorum present, Mayor Nix called the meeting to order. Minutes of the 12 June 1995 regular meeting were duly approved. THIS MEETING IS A DELAY OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF MONDAY, 26 JUNE 1995, DUE TO A REQUEST BY THE AIRPORT BOARD. THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL WERE POLLED BEFORE THE MEETING DATE WAS CHANGED AND THEY WERE UNANIMOUS IN AGREEING TO DELAY THE MEETING. NOTICES WERE SENT TO THE LOCAL NEWS MEDIA AND THE CHANGE WAS WELL ADVERTISED. Ms. Sue Mason, Chairman of the Airport Board, introduced several officials of Teledyne Continental Motors, including President Bryan L. Lewis. The Board is recommending the Council approve a Lease Agreement which has been worked out between the City and TCM over the past several months. Today's meeting was delayed in order to allow the Lease Agreement to be finalized. After some discussion, Councilwoman Puckett introduced in writing, and moved for the adoption of, the following resolution. Seconded by Councilman Overstreet, motion passed unanimously: RESOLUTION NO. 488-95 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA, that Mayor James P. Nix is hereby authorized to execute a Lease Agreement be- tween the CITY OF FAIRHOPE, acting through its FAIRHOPE AIRPORT BOARD, and TELEDYNE CONTINENTAL MOTORS, a division of Teledyne Industries, Inc. This Agreement,effective 7/1/95, concerns the lease of the Municipal Airport for a period of two years, with three options to renew, each for a five-year term. Lease is to commence after Pre - Lease Site Work completed. Until that date, or the 31st of December, 1995, whichever is earlier, TCM will pay a monthly rental of $3500.00. After commencement date, rental to be $7,000.00 per month for the intial two-year term. ADOPTED THIS 28TH DAY OF JUNE, 1995. Dames N. Nlx, Mayor erk 28 June 1995 Councilman Duck moved to final adopt Ordinance NO. 976, an ordinance establishing schedule of Magistrate Fines which was introduced at the last regular meeting. Seconded by Councilman Bishop, motion to final adopt Ordinance No. 976 passed unanimously. Mr. Charles Lake, 55 South Bayview Street, came before Council to request permission for himself and his neighbor, Tom Michel of 57 South Bayview, to construct a sidewalk in front of their homes. They will bear all costs and will build according to City specifications. After discussion, Councilman Bishop moved to approve the request, provided Supt. Tim Kant and Councilman Overstreet approve it. Seconded by Councilman Duck, motion passed unanimously. A gentlemen in the audience asked if any concrete plans were made about the park the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation is to develop on Oberg Road and donate to the City, according to a local news report. Mayor Nix reported the City has no additional information other than the same news report. There being no other business, meeting was duly adjourned at 5:36 pm. �J - -1 -A��� amel P.
