Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, March 19, 2025, 3:30 p.m.
Fairhope Museum of History
24 N. Section Street, Fairhope Alabama 36532
Members In Attendance: Mara Kozelsky-Hunter, Amy Molyneux, Gary Gover,
Dannie Mixon, Susan Stein, Skip Jones, and Ginger Golson. Also present, Erik
Cortinas (Staff Liaison) and Jenny Opal Wilson (FHPC Secretary). Jay Robinson
(City Council Representative) was absent.
Call to Order: Mara Kozelsky-Hunter called the meeting to order at 3:35 pm.
Approve Minutes: Mara Kozelsky-Hunter asked Commission for motion to
approve the February 12, 2025 minutes. Skip Jones made a motion to approve
the February 12, 2025 minutes, seconded by Ginger Golson. Motion passed
unanimously.
Demolition Review Working (Draft) Proposal: Mara Kozelsky -Hunter opened
discussion with the Commission on the Demolition Review Working (Draft)
Proposal. The Commission critiqued the proposal with edits. Mara will finalize
edits and forward to Erik Cortinas for review and to match code prior to
submittal to Attorney Chris Williams. After discussion, Skip Jones made a
motion for Erik to submit the finalized Demolition Review Working (Draft)
Proposal to Attorney Chris Williams, seconded by Susan Stein. Motion passed
unanimously.
Demolition Assessment – Discussion: Amy Molyneux opened discussion
with the Commission on Demolition Assessment. Amy mentioned that she had
attended the National Preservation Conference in 2024. She suggested an
increase to the Demolition Permit Fee, which is currently at $50.00. The
Commission discussed views. Mara suggested more research on other
programs and assessment fees. After discussion, Amy will further research.
People’s Cooperative (Old Hardware) Store: Mara Kozelsky-Hunter opened
discussion with the Commission on the historical significance of the People’s
Cooperative (Old Hardware) Store at 301 Fairhope Avenue at the intersection

of Fairhope Avenue and Church Street. The Commission were in consensus to
submit a formal letter in writing to the Planning Commission on the historic
significance of the building. Mara will script a standard draft letter by our April
9, 2025 meeting to publish in the minutes.
Other Business: Mara Kozelsky -Hunter discussed with the Commission that
the Fairhope Historic Commission Certified Local Government (CLG)
application was not approved. She commented there is no appeal process and
Attorney Chris Williams is reviewing.
Public Comment: There was no public comment.
Skip made a motion to adjourn meeting, seconded by Amy Molyneux. Motion
unanimously passed.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:56 pm.
