HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-05-1992 Regular Meeting1338 STATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular and organizational session at 5:30 p.m.; Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber; 161 North Section Street; Fairhope, Alabama 36532; on Mondav, 5 October 1992. Present were Mayor James P. Nix; Councilmembers Jeanette Puckett, Michael A. Ford, and John V. Duck; City Attorney Marion E. Wynne and City Clerk Evelyn P. Phillips. Councilman David E. Bishop was absent. (All unanimous votes herein include Nix, Puckett, Ford, Duck; and later, Overstreet.) There being a quorum present, Mayor Nix called the meeting to order. Minutes of the 28 September 1992 regular session were duly approved. The was the last official act of the 1988-1992 administration. This being the organizational meeting to begin the new administration, the incumbents took their places in the audience. Invocation was given by The Reverend John C. Friedman, Senior Minister of the Fairhope United Methodist Church. The Honorable James H. Reid, Circuit Judge, 28th Judicial Circuit of the State of Alabama, then gave the Oath of Office to the newly elected councilmember, Layton Overstreet, and the re-elected councilmembers: Nix (Mayor), Puckett, Ford, and Duck. Re-elected Councilmember Bishop, who was unable to be present, will take the Oath upon his return to town. (Signed Oaths inserted at end of these minutes.) The new administration- Mayor Nix and Councilmembers Overstreet, Puckett, Ford, and Duck- made brief remarks of appreciation and pledged continued hard work for the City as they each took their places on the council dais and continued with business: Councilman Overstreet moved to continue Council Procedure as established in Ordinance No. 813. Seconded by Councilman Duck, motion passed unanimously. Councilman Ford moved to approve the following terms and appointments for Mayor Pro Tempore and Planning & Zoning Commission terms. Seconded by Councilwoman Puckett, motion passed unanimously: 10/1/92 - 7/31/93 8/1/93 - 5/31/94 6/1/94 - 3/31/95 4/1/95 - 12/31/95 1/1/96 - 9/30/96 David E. Bishop Michael A. Ford John V. Duck Layton Overstreet Jeanette Puckett 5 October 1992 1339 Mayor Nix made the following Committee Assignments: Gas, Water & Sewer -Chairman Duck; Bishop & Overstreet Electric & Library -Chairman Bishop; Ford & Overstreet Parks & Recreation -Chairman Ford; Duck & Puckett Finance & Audit -Chairman Puckett; Ford & Duck Streets & Industrial Recruitment -Chairman Overstreet; Duck & Ford Police,Fire & Court -Chairman Nix; Duck & Puckett Councilwoman Puckett moved to reappoint Councilmembers Bishop, Ford, and Duck; each for a 4-year term, to the Fair - hope Recycling Committee. Seconded by Councilman Overstreet, motion passed unanimously. Councilman Overstreet moved that all public officials and city personnel continue in their present positions until final appointments can be made. Seconded by Councilman Duck, motion passed unanimously. Meeting was duly adjourned at 5:45 p.m. A reception in the Lobby immediately followed the meeting, sponsored by the Fairhope BPW Club. (The next regular meeting will be held on Monday, 26 October 1992, same time and place.) P.
