HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-11-1992 Regular Meeting1283 STATE OF ALABAMA X COUNTY OF BALDWIN X The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 5:30 pm; Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber; 161 North Section Street; Fairhope, Alabama 36532; on Wednesday. 11 March 1992. Present were Mayor James P. Nix; Councilmembers Roy C. White, Jeanette Puckett, David E. Bishop, Michael A. Ford, and John V. Duck; City Attorney Marion E. Wynne and City Clerk Evelyn Phillips. No one was absent. There being a quorum present, Mayor Nix called the meeting to order. Minutes of the 24 February 1992 regular session were duly approved. Mr. Kenny Graves advised that the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce has asked the Jubilee Jaycees to take charge of all the Fourth of July activities this year. There will be food booths, a parade, games, etc.; and the City will remain in charge of the fireworks display. After discussion, Councilman Ford moved to approve having the Jaycees in charge of the cele- bration. Seconded by Councilman Duck, motion passed unanimously. A public hearing was held as advertised and as required concerning the City's intention to apply for a CDBG Housing Rehabilitation grant. This grant, if received, would provide some $250,000 for use in rehabilitating the housing owned by qualified fixed -income owners. No one present had any comment. The second required public hearing will be held on March 23r after which application will be sent in for action. Councilman Ford moved to accept the $9,200.00 bid by American Tennis Courts, Inc., of Mobile, to resurface the tennis courts as recommended by the Recreation Board. Seconded by Council- woman Puckett, motion passed unanimously. Council took the following action on a bid for: FOR AN ELECTRIC DEPT. BUCKET TRUCK: (Truck Cab & Body only; Boom and compartments to be bid later.) Vendor Cost Delivery Moyer Ford Sales, Foley Steber Chevrolet, Daphne Ward Internat'1 Trks, Mobile $ 28,984.00 60 days $ 29,946.00 60 days $ 29,398.35 60 days It is recommended to accept the low bid by Moyer Ford Sales. --W.Smith, Purch Agt. --A. Norris, Electric Supt. 11 March 1992 1284 Councilman Bishop moved to accept the low bid by Moyer Ford Sales Company, provided all specifications are met. Seconded by Councilman Duck, motion passed unanimously. Mayor Nix advised that three positions on the Recreation Board, each for a 5-year term, needed to be filled. Councilman Duck asked if the three members whose terms were expiring) were willing to serve again. Upon being advised they were, he nominated Rae Jackson, Richard Bass, and Larry Thomas for re- appointment, each to a 5-year term. There being no other nom- inations, Councilman Duck moved to close the nominations and to reappoint Jackson, Bass, and Thomas by acclamation. Seconded by Councilman Ford, motion passed unanimously. Councilwoman Puckett moved to pay bills as presented. Seconded by Councilman White, motion passed unanimously. Council reviewed an application for a Restaurant Liquor License by Cheri Field, dba C.L. INC., 216 Magnolia Avenue. Due to Ms. Field's not being present, Councilman Duck moved to hold the application for consideration at the next regular Council session. Seconded by Councilwoman Puckett, motion passed unanimously. Mayor Nix announced that the street resurfacing project has begun and that, while some inconveniences will occur, he hopes everyone will bear with us as every effort will be made to complete the work in as short a time as possible.
