by Trail Pontiac-GMC, provided all specifications are met.
Seconded by Councilman Duck, motion passed unanimously.
Mayor Nix reported that, as directed at the last session,
he had negotiated and executed a short-term lease between
23 December 1991 1261
the City and DREADNOUGHT PRODUCTIONS, INC., a subsidiary
of Warner Brothers Pictures, for the use of Hangar No. 1,
Hangar No. 2, and the upstairs section of the Pilots Lounge
of the Fairhope Municipal Airport for making motion pictures.
The lease is for six months, at a total rent of $100,000,
with a two -month renewal option at $17,500 each month. The
new leasee plans to move in on December 29th, they are providing
their own security people, and the City has been named as
co-insured on all required insurance.
Council received a report from the Airport Board which
recommended the Council accept Read Enterprises, of New
Orleans, Louisiana, as the new Fixed Base Operator at the
Municipal Airport. Three aviation concerns protested this
recommendation: Fairhope Flying Services, represented by
Lee Statler; Coastal Air Transport, represented by Ernest
Douglas; and Clarke Aviation, represented by Joel Clarke.
After discussion, Mayor Nix asked Airport Board Chairman
Sue Mason, who was present, to investigate the allegations
made by these gentlemen and make another report as soon as
possible before any Council action is taken. (The representative
from Read Enterprises was unable to attend the meeting because
he could not land at the airport here or in Mobile due to
heavy fog.)
Mayor Nix appointed Councilmembers Ford, Bishop, and
White to investigate, and to report to Council as soon as
possible, complaints from several Fels Avenue residents about
a parking lot constructed by city employees next to the
Lutheran Church.
Meeting was duly adjourned at 6:10 pm.
