HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-10-1991 Regular Meeting1195 STATE OF ALABAMA X COUNTY OF BALDWIN X The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 5:30 pm; Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber ; 161 North Section Street; Fairhope, Alabama 36532; on Monday. 10 June 1991. Present were Mayor James P. Nix; Councilmembers Roy C. White, Jeanette Puckett, David E. Bishop, Michael A. Ford, and John V. Duck; City Attorney Marion E. Wynne and City Clerk Evelyn Phillips. No one was absent. There being a quorum present, Mayor Nix called the meeting to order. Minutes of the 28 May 1991 regular session were duly approved. A Public Hearing was held, as advertised, to inform the public of the general scope of the CDBG sewer line project at the Industrial Park; and to receive any public input offered. The project is to install approximately 2600 additional feet of sewer line, with eight manholes, extending the present sewer line to make it available for the Hoover Group facility as well as additional facilities. No one present had any comment. This hearing will be repeated at the next regular Council session on June 24th.* Councilman Duck introduced, and moved for the adoption of, the following resolution. Seconded by Councilman Bishop, motion passed unanimously: * * (Res. No. 340-91 on next page....) * *This hearing was advertised to give the scope of the proposed CDBG Housing Rehabilitation Project. instead of the sewerline project. Since the advertisements were correct, and since no one spoke up during this hearing about the housing, it was decided to go ahead with the June 24th hearing on the housing project. 1196 RESOLUTION NO. ,3`��.9/ RECOGNIZING THE FAMILIES OF ALABAMA'S MILITARY PERSONNEL WHO SERVED IN DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM, AND DESIGNATING A DAY OF TRIBUTE IN THEIR HONOR. WHEREAS, the Governing Body of the Cite of Fairhope, in recognizing the valor and sacrifice of Alabama's Desert Storm veterans, also recognizes the significant sacrifices of their families remaining at home while their loved ones fought to regain and secure the precious gifts of freedom and hope seized by military might from the citizens and families of Kuwait; and WHEREAS, in commendation of these families' selfless support of their loved ones in the Persian Gulf, it is the desire of this Governing Body of the City of I'airhohe that public acknowledgment be made of their sacrifice and courage, and that such tribute be made in an appropriate manner of citywide significance; and WHEREAS, the Alabama Legislature, Both [louses Concurring, has designated June 21, 1991, as a special day of honor and tribute to the families of Alabama's Desert Shield/Desert Storm service personnel who did serve and are serving in the Persian Gulf; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA, THAT FRIDAY, JUNE 21, 1991, IS HEREBY DESIGNATED FAMILY TRIBUTE DAY IN THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE; AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all citizens, businesses, corporations, and other organizations in the City of Fairhope are urged to fly the American Flag on this special day of tribute and appreciation. As recommended by the Electrical Superintendent and the Purchasing Agent: Councilman Bishop moved to purchase the fifteen 25KVA trans- formers from Irby Company at $9,315 with lowest evaluated cost, provided all specifications are met. Seconded by Council- man Ford, motion passed unanimously. Councilman Bishop moved to purchase the six 50KVA transformers from Mack Electric at $4,398 with lowest evaluated cost, pro- vided all specifications are met. Seconded by Councilman Duck, motion passed unanimously. Councilman Bishop moved to purchase the four 100KVA transformers from Mack Electric at $6,432 with lowest evaluated cost, pro- vided all specifications are met. Seconded by Councilman Duck, motion passed unanimously. Council reviewed an application for a Beer Off -premises license and a Wine Off -premises license by Theadore L. Leiser, dba T&E's EZ PIC, 821 Mobile Street. No one present was opposed to the licenses. There was police approval of the applicant. Councilman Ford moved to approve the issuance of the licenses. Seconded by Councilwoman Puckett, motion passed unanimously. Council reviewed an application for a Beer On/Off-premises license and a Wine On/Off-premises license by Robert R. Renz, dba THE WINE MERCHANT, 102 North Section Street. No one present was opposed to the licenses. There was police approval of the applicant. Councilwoman Puckett moved to approve the issuance of the licenses. Seconded by Councilman Duck, motion passed unanimously. 1198 10 June 1991 A letter from Thomas Morgan, President of the Baldwin County Auburn club, and Philip Hodgson, President of the Baldwin County Chapter of the University of Alabama Alumni Association, praising the outstanding job done by the Quail Creek Municipal Golf Course staff on the first Baldwin County Challenge Classic Golf Tourney was read. The proceeds went to each club's scholarship fund which is used to aid deserving Baldwin County high school seniors attend the two universities. A letter from Ted E. Turner, 306 North Summit Street, was read which requested permission for his daughter, Karen, to operate a snow -cone concession stand at the Municipal Pier from June 27th through September 2nd this year. Council took no action pending further information. Councilman Duck moved to pay bills as presented. Seconded by Councilman Ford, motion passed unanimously.
