Nix, Mayor CONSENT TO HOLDING OF MEETING The undersigned members of the City Council of the City of Fairhope, Alabama, do hereby acknowledge service of the Notice and Call of Special Meeting hereinabove set forth and do hereby consent to the holding of such meeting at such time and in such place and for the purpose set forth therein. Councilmember Puckett was out of town. 1175 STATE OF ALABAMA X COUNTY OF BALDWIN X The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in special session at 5:00 pm; Fairhope Municipal Complex Mayor's Office; 161 North Section Street; Fairhope, Alabama 36532; on Thursday, 4 April 1991. Present were Mayor James P. Nix; Councilmembers Roy C. White, David E. Bishop, Michael A. Ford, and John V. Duck; City Attorney Marion E. Wynne and City Clerk Evelyn P. Phillips. Council- woman Jeanette Puckett was out of town. The purpose of this meeting was to hear a proposal from the Veterans Administration State of Alabama Bureau for Veterans Affairs. There being a quorum present, Mayor Nix called the meeting to order. The State Bureau has contacted the Mayor to ask if the city is interested in having a Veterans Nursing Home located here. Estimated construction cost of the facility is $9.5 million, which will be paid 75% federal funds and 25% state funds. It will have a capacity of 120 beds with room to expand for another 60 beds. It will provide about 100 new jobs and a payroll of $2.5 million. For Fairhope to be considered as a possible site, the governing body must auth- orize a committment of 8-to-10 acres of land. Councilman White moved to authorize the Mayor to send a written commitment for the required land, good for six months. Seconded by Councilman Bishop, motion passed unanimously.
