HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-25-1991 Regular Meeting1167 STATE OF ALABAMA Z COUNTY OF BALDWIN Z The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 5:30 pm; Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber; 161 North Section Street; Fairhope, Alabama 36532; on Monday, 25 February 1991. Present were Mayor James P. Nix; Councilmembers Roy C. White, Jeanette Puckett, David E. Bishop, Michael A. Ford, and John V. Duck; City Attorney Marion E. Wynne and City Clerk Evelyn Phillips. No one was absent. There being a Quorum present, Mayor Nix called the meeting to order. Minutes of the 11 February 1991 regular session were duly approved. Mayor Nix called for a minute of silent prayer for the safety of the men and women now serving in the war against Saddam Hussein of Iraq in the Persian Gulf. Mr. Ack Moore, of Moore Engineering Company, reported that only one bid was received on the screening unit for the wastewater treatment plant; and one bid on the conveyor belt needed for this screen; and he recommended both bids be accepted: Councilman Bishop introduced, and moved for the adoption of, the following resolution to accept the bids, provided all specifications are met. Seconded by Councilman Duck, motion passed unanimously: RESOLUTION NO. 332-91 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA, That a contract for a screening unit for the wastewater treatment plant be given to JIM HOUSE & ASSOCIATES (ENVIREX, INC.) in the amount of $31,805.00; and a contract for a 24" x 12' belt conveyor to serve this unit be given to YOUNG & VANN COMPANY in the amount of $5,800.00; as recommended by Moore Engineering Company. 25 February 1991 1168 Mrs. Sue Mason, Chairperson of the Airport Board, presented the lease and airport operation agreement between the City and Escape Aviation, Inc., dba Coastal Air Transport, for council action. This lease authorized by the council in regular session of 10 December 1990. After discussion of the terms, Councilwoman Puckett introduced, and moved for the adoption of, the following resolution. Seconded by Councilman Ford, motion passed unanimously: RESOLUTION NO. 333-91 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA, That the Mayor be and is authorized to execute that certain lease and airport operation agreement dated: / 1,L` /991 between the CITY OF FAIRHOPE acting by and through its FAIRHOPE AIRPORT BOARD and ESCAPE AVIATION, INC., dba COASTAL AIR TRANSPORT. CAT to be a special fixed base operator at the Fairhope Municipal Airport with the non- exclusive privilege to engage in the business of providing air taxi and air freight operations, aircraft engine and acces- sory maintenance, single and multi -engine flight instruction, and aircraft rental. The term of the agreement is for five (5) years, with five five-year options, at a monthly rent of three hundred seventy-nine dollars ($379.00); to be renegotiated at each five year interval. Nlx, mayor er Councilman Duck moved to reschedule the March llth regular council meeting date to Thursday, March 14th, due to the planned attendance by most of the council, on March llth, of the National Leage of Cities Congress in Washington, D.C. Seconded by Councilman Bishop, motion passed unanimously. Councilwoman Puckett moved to update the Volunteer Firemen's Roster by the addition of Charles Blake, Thomas Bozeman, Jerry Kidd, and Tim Lennicx. Seconded by Councilman Ford, motion passed unanimously. Mayor Nix reported $9,421.25 was realized by the sale of obsolete machinery and equipment at the City Auction on 16 February 1991. Also, the First, Second, and Third Grades of the Fairhope Elementary School held an Arbor Day Poster contest and the winning posters will be exhibited in the Civic Center Lobby through Arbor Day next Wednesday, February 27th. 25 February 1991 1169 Councilman Ford announced that a sizeable donation had been made to the Recreation Board by the Girls Softball Assoc- iation and the Eastern Shore Soccer League to help defray the cost of installing a sprinkler system at Stimpson Field. Councilman Ford also announced there is a lot of interest in a City Museum and another meeting will be held in the near future. The new "City Flag" should be here in time for display on Arbor Day next Wednesday. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned at 5:41 pm. . Nix, mayor City C r
