The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in special session
at 4:45 pm; Fairhope Municipal Complex; 161 North Section
Street; Fairhope, Alabama, on Thursday, 12 November 1987.
Present were Mayor James P. Nix; Councilmembers Roy C.
White, Jeanette Puckett, Michael A. Ford, and Barney L.
Shull; and City Clerk Evelyn P. Phillips. Councilmember
David E. Bishop was absent.
The purpose of this meeting was to hear a special report
from the committee appointed at the last regular session to
advise action on the bids for a small bulldozer.
There being a Quorum present, Mayor Nix called the
meeting to order.
Councilman White reported for the committee which consisted
of himself, Phil Rutherford, Tim Kant, and Wayne Smith. White
said they had looked into both machines, the Komatsu was too
small, the Caterpiller bid proved to be in line, and they
recommended acceptance of the lowest bid meeting specifications.
There is also a possibility that a lower price can be negotiated.
Councilman White concluded his report with the following
motion: I move for the acceptance of the lowest bid meeting
specifications, the Caterpiller at $41,627.81; also that Mayor
Nix be authorized to negotiate for an even lower price (plus
or minus various optional equipment); and that funding for
this purchase be covered by a transfer of funds from the Gas
Department Operating Fund to the General Fund. Seconded by
Councilman Shull, motion passed unanimously.
Meeting was duly adjourned at 4:58 pm.
