HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-07-2025 Pedestrian & Bicycle Committee Meeting MinutesSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN CITY OF FAIRHOPE The Pedestrian & Bicycle Committee, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 4:30 p.m. Fairhope Public Library Board Room, 501 Fairhope Ave., Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Tuesday, 7 January, 2025. Present were Chairman Gary Gover, members: Katie Bolton, John Prewitt, Morgan Russell, and Chris Riley, City Engineer Robert Johnson, and guests Cal Cooper and James Watkins. Members Jack Graves and Michael Walker were absent. There being a quorum present, Chairman Gover called the meeting to order at 4:40 p.m. Administrative item: the next regular session meeting will be on 11 March, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. at the Fairhope Public Library Board Room. (The Location of the meeting has later been changed to Study Room 3 on the 1st floor.) Attendees briefly introduced themselves. Guest Cooper described his experience with wayfinding and gave his initial assessment ofwayfinding around Fairhope and its Central Business District. The City Engineer briefed the committee on the status on projections for the Flying Creek Preserve and adjacent bicycle park, the Working Waterfront, pedestrian signals for the Central Business District, the Parker Road sidewalk, and the Gambino's, American Legion, and Elks Club crossing. Goals for 2025 were discussed: Implement Complete Streets policy and include it with Safe Streets for All master planning. Gover can prepare a draft current Complete Streets policy resolution. Auburn is successful with Complete Streets. A Safe Streets for All demonstration project might be one such as the well used path from Red Barn through Quail Creek. Another demonstration might be the Eastern Shore Trail from Flying Creek Preserve to the Central Business District. Legislation or other means of increasing the protection of alternative transportation users from injury impacts on paths shared with vehicles , including increased liability on the part of vehicle owners or operators. A review of provisions in the Central Business District for parking for the disabled. Adjournment: A motion to adjourn was made at 5:30 p.m. with unanimous agreement.
