HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-14-1976 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council of the City of Fairhope, Alabama met in regular session at the City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, Monday, June 14, 1976 at 7:00 P.M. with the following members present: Mayor James P. Nix, Councilmen: David E. Bishop, H. G. Bishop, Sam E. Box, 011ie E. Deese and Barney L. Shull. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were approved. This being date set for the 2nd of two public hearings on applica- tion for $100,000.00 Development Block Grant, Mayor Nix reported that the first application was denied for lack of fundsl�but the City has been notified that there was a possibility of receiving $42,000.00 at this time. The money will be used to install sewer lines on Middle Street from Ingleside to Dogwood. There being no protests, Councilman 011ie Deese moved, seconded by Councilman David Bishop that the City apply for $100,000.00 Development Block Grant to be used for sewer installation on Middle Street. Motion carried. It was reported that the City had petitioned the Federal Power Commission, through the Alabama Municipal Electric Association, to deny Alabama Power Company's request for rate hike for five months, the time they could grant, City was granted four months which saved the City $68,000.00. The State of Alabama is installing a Scenic View Par Fort on I-10 and Highway 98 and the City's gas lines be moved. Moore Engineering Company has received the bids on this project: T & H Contracting Co. $ 6,000.00 Red Level, Ala. W. R. Mitchell, Contr. 7,500.00 Eight Mile, Ala. James E. McBrier, Gen. Contr. 7,000.00 Leeds, Alabama k at Spanish will have to following Motion by Councilmen Sam Box seconded by Councilman Barney Shull that the City accept low bid of T & H Contracting Company pending approval of the State Highway Department and all costs fully reimbursable to the City by the State. Motion carred. Motion by Councilman H. G. Bishop seconded by Councilman David E. Bishop that City celebrate July 4th on Monday, July 5th with City office being closed. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Barney Shull seconded by Councilman Sam Box that the City advertise for public hearing on rezoning Lots 16, 171 20 and 21, Block 16 of Volanta Subdivision from R-2 to B-4. Motion carried. The following bids were received on two C. B. Radios with Antenna for Police Cars # 9 and # 10: Charlie's T. V. 323.90 Otasco 259.60 Motion by Councilman David E. Bishop seconded by Councilman 011ie Deese that the City accept low bid of Otasco . Motion carried. This being date set for opening bids on sale of 1962 - 6 cyl. Ford Pick -Up truck, the following bids were received: Herbert L. Fuqua $ 152.36 Warren Davis 61.95 Motion by Councilman H. G. Bishop seconded by Councilman Barney Shull that City accept high bid of $152.36. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Sam Box seconded by Councilman H. G. Bishop that City lease 12 X 24 space in concrete building at Fisherman's Wharf for Marine Radio Repair shop. All work dividing and repair- ing building to be done by lessee. Rent to be $50 to August 15 when lessee will pay $600.00 for one year plus all utilities. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman H. G. Bishop seconded by Councilman Barney L Shull that bills be approved for payment. Motion carried. City insurance was referred to .Councilman David Bishop and Council- man Barney Shull for report at the next regular meeting.
