HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-10-1976 Regular Meetingn STATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council of the City of Fairhope, Alabama met in regular session at the City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, Monday, May 10, 1976 at 7:00 P.M. with the following mem- bers present: Mayor James P. Nix, Councilmen: David E. Bishop, H. G. Bishop, Sam E. Box, 011ie E. Deese and Barney L. Shull. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were approved. The Mayor commended two City Employees in the Water and Sewer Department: Mr. Ronald Davidson who passed his examination for Grade 4 Waste Water Operator which is as high as you can go and Mr. Paul Pinson who passed his examination for Grade 3 Waste water Operator. The City now has two Grade 4 Wastewater Operators Mr. Michael Rejczyk being the other Operator. This being date set for, Public Hearing on rezoning from R-2 to B-4, Business and Profession District, property identified' as a subdivision of Carrie Young property, there being no objec- tions Councilman Barney Shull introduced the following Ordinance: ORDINANCE NO. 5 % b AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ZONING ORDINANCE NO. 557, ADOPTED AUGUST 11, 1975. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA that the following described property be rezoned from R-2, Medium Density Single Family District to B-4, Business and Professional District, as recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission: Lot 7, Section 17, Township 6 South, Range 2 East, property identified as a subdivision of the Carrie Young property. A petition was presented to the Council by all residents of Wilfred Street requesting that the name of Wilfred Street be know as Spring Drive. There being no"protests, Councilman Sam Box moved, seconded by Councilman Barney Shull that the following Resolution be adopted: RESOLUTION BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA that upon the request of all residents on Wilfred Street located in the Fairwood Subdivision, the name of said Wilfred Street be changed to and known as SPRING DRIVE. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the records of the City of Fairhope show said Wilfred Street as SPRING DRIVE. Upon being put to vote the Resolution was unanimously adopt ed. Motion by Councilman H. G. Bishop seconded by Councilman Barney Shull that the State Highway Department be authorized to asphalt the Beach Road instead of shelling as authorized at previous meeting. The asphalt would follow the present road con- struction with 12 ft. width where there is a single right-of-way and 24 ft. width where there is a double right-of-way. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Sam Box seconded by Councilman Barney Shull that the Revenue Sharing Planned Use Report be approved as presented. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman H. G. Bishop seconded by Councilman 011ie Deese that Mr. Horace Stowe and Mr. E. B. Gwin be reappoint• ed to the Parking Authority for a three year term ending January, 1979. Motion carried. Mayor Nix reappointed Dr. Pierce Frederick and Mrs. Leona Newman to the Planning and Zoning Commission for a six year term ending May 1982. Motion by Councilman David Bishop seconded by Councilman 011ie Deese that the reappointments be approved. Motion carried. Several requests to have utility bills sent to the Bank to be deducted from bank accounts was brought up for discussion. Councilman H. G. Bishop to look into the matter and report to the Council. Mayor Nix reported that the City has received notice from Alabama Power Company of a proposed wholesale electric rate in- crease of from 20 to 30% to be effective June 1, 1976. The Ala- bama Municipal Electric Association has contacted the Federal Power Commission asking; that they hold up the rate increase for five months giving Cities time to prepare their briefs against proposed increase. The request of Matt Dial for vacation of Street was referre to the Planning and Zoning Commission and the City Superintendent is to check on the drainage problem on Harlem Lane. Councilman Barney Shull and Councilman Sam Box were request• ed to check on type of pumping station to be purchased for use at the new stadium. Motion by Councilman H. G. Bishop seconded by Councilman Sam Box that the bills be approved for payment. Motion carried. It was duly moved, seconded and carried that the meeting adjourn.
