HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-23-1976 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at the City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, on Monday, February 23, 1976 at 7:00 P.M. with the following member present: Mayor James P. Nix, Councilmen: David E. Bishop, H. G. Bishop, Sam E. Box, 011ie E. Deese and Barney L. Shull. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved. Mr. Thad Ingram representing the Fairhope Band Club reporte that the Fairhope Band would be officially representing the State of Alabama in the Bi-Centennial Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D. C. The cost to send band would be between $30,000 and $40,000 and they had only two months to raise the money and requested the Council to donate at least $3,000.00. Miss Blanche Simmons told Council that the Band had been a First Division Band for the past 14 years and has brought a great deal of recognition to the City of Fairhope. They receive no funds from the School or County and operate on fees and from the Parents Band Club which has been organized approximately thr years. Mayor Nix reported that the City had to either put on a sales tax or cut down on expenditures and that donations had been one of the items cut back and that the City does not have money to make contribution and must stick to their policy of no donations. Councilman H. G. Bishop reported that the City has had to borrow over $2,000,000 in the past 32 year and that the interest alone is $120,000 per year.. Motion by Councilman Sam Box seconded by Councilman H. G. Bishop that Ordinance No. 569, AN ORDINANCE SETTING FEE FOR GAS SERVICE CALL, introduced at the regular meeting of Feb. 9 be adopted as introduced. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman David E. Bishop seconded by Councilman Barney SHull that the following Resolution be adopted. Motion carried. RESOLUTION WHEREAS, THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE, a municipal corporation, has a building that is suitable for repair, alteration and modi- fication to be used as an Emergency Operation Center, and WHEREAS, the City of Fairhope is desirous of leasing the same to BALDIWN COUNTY, ALABA1.7A for a period of 99 years as use for an Emergency Operations Center, and WHEREAS, BALDWIN COUNTY, ALABAMA, agrees to make all necess ary additions, modifications, etc. to the said building, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor be, and he is hereby authorized to lease the premises as described in the Lease to BALDWIN COUNTY, ALABAMA for a period of 99 years at an annual rental payment of $1.00 per year, according to the terms and conditions of said Lease, including a reversionary clause stating that if the said building is ever abandoned by BALDWIN COUNTY, ALABAMA as an Emergency Operation Center, the same shall revert to the CITY OF FAIRHOPE.
