HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-14-1972 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City 'Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at the City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, on Monday, February 14, 1972 at 7:30 P.M. with the following members present: Mayor A. C. Macon, Councilmen: James P. Nix, John A. Robertson, Henry G. Bishop and Sam E. Box. Councilmen Robert H. Cowen being absent. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were approved_. This being date set for opening bids on tennis courts, only one bid being received, the Council agreed to postpone bid opening until Monday, Febraury 21, 1972 at 7:00 P.M. at the City Adminis- tration Building and ask for additional bids for this date. Notion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Robertson that Eugene Bosby be paid 3000.00 a month on garbage contract for balance of this administration, retroactive to January 1, 1972 Motion carried. Fire Chief Ira Steel reported that five requests for bids on new fire truck had been t4ailed, 2 companies rejected the request and only one bid was received. Councilman Robertson moved, seconded by Councilman Nix, that the City postpone bid opening until Monday, Febraury 21, 1972 at 7:00 P.M. and request additional bids. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Nix that the City ask for bids on pick-up truck for the Building Inspector. Bids to be opened at the next regular meeting of the Council on February 289 1972. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Box seconded by Councilman Robertson that the Gas Department purchase new unit for odorizer station at a cost of $625.00. Motion carried. .� Motion by Councilman Nix seconded by Councilman Box that at the request of Mr. Charles T gersoll and group who pvoposes to subdivide 52 acres of land off Sou heast corner of Greeno and Nichols Street �� with all City utilities, the City of Fairhope will accept a sewage ap tie in at its nearest point subject to Ms. Ingersoll and group installing necessary pumping station and lines at their expense and that Mr. Ingersoll and group will request the City to incorpor- ate them into the City Limits upon completion of their subdivision. Motion carried. Council agreed to have open house at new City Administration Build- ing, 387 Fairhope Avenue, on Sunday, March 12, 1972 in conjunction with opening of Arts and Craft week. Motion by Councilman Robertson Bobby Long be paid $200.00 per Building. Motion carried. seconded by Councilman Bishop that month for cleaning Administration Motion by Councilman Box seconded by Councilman Bishop that the City advertise for public hearing on rezoning to R-3 all residential land in the area bounded on the East by School Street, on the North by Morphy Avenue, on the West by Equity Street and on the South by South line of Section 17 & 189 T 6 S A 2 E to Equity Street, in conjunction with the regular meeting of the City Council on Monday, Ivhrch 13, 1972. Motion carried. Council delayed opening bids on Electric truck and equipment for additional bids. STATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at the City Administration Building, Monday, February 28, 1972 at 7:30 P.M. with the following members present: Mayor R. C. Macon, Councilmen: James P. Nix, John A. Robertson, Robert H. Cowen, Henry G. Bishop and Sam E. Box. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were approved. Mr. E. R. Mathis, Solid Waster Supervisor, Baldwin County Health Department, met with Council to discuss requirements for converting the City garbage dump to a sanitary landfill as required by State law. Mr. Jim Byrd, U. S. Civil Service Commission and represent- atives from Mobile County Personnel Board met with Council to discuss the training needs of city employees under a Technical Service Agreement with the Mobile Area Office of the U. S. Civil Service Commission. Mrs. Martha_1iill requested that City Council establish plans for bicycle paths in the City. The following bids were received on pick-up truck for the Building Inspector: Thomas -Corte, Fairhope G. M. C. 8 cyl. $29172.35 6 cyl. 29083.80 Carey and Mike, Fairhope Dodge 8 cyl. 2001.20 6 cyl. 29198.90 Gaston Motor Co., Fairhope Ford 6 cyl. 2,100.00 8 cyl. No bid Steber Chevrolet Co., Fairhope Chevrolet 6 cyl. 29100.00 8 cyl. 29188.55 Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Nix that the City accept low bid of Thomas -Corte for 6 cyl. G. M.C. � ton pick-up truck provided truck meets specifications. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Nix that City Superintendent be authorized to hire part time secretary to bring gas department records and file to date. Motion carried. Councilman Robertson introduced the following Resolution for adoption, seconded by Councilman Cowen: RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the CITY OF FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA is desirous of constructin, operating and maintaining a Municipal Golf Course, and WHEREAS, the preliminary plans have been completed and the City is desirous of proceeding with the project. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council does approve of the said project, and desires to proceed therewith. TEE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and Council have determined that the City iq financially able to carry out its part of the obligation in constructing, operating and maintaining a Municipal Golf Course. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes at its regular meeting of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Fairhope as approving the said project. ADOPTED this the 28th day of February, 1972. Approved Mayor Attest: City Clerk Upon being put to vote the following vote was recorded: Voting; for adoption of Resolution: Councilmen: Nix, Robertson, Cowen, and Box. Voting Against: Councilman Bishop. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Robertson that the City take full page Ad in color in the F irhope Courier for. Open House in conjunction with Arts aftd Craft week. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Robertson that Attorney's fee for representing City in Daphne Gas settlement in the amount of $3,065.00 be approved for payment. Motion carried. Motion by -.Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Nix that Mayor. Macon be authorized to hire Mr. Lewis Kirby as Assist- ant Purchasing Agent for the City of Fairhope. Motion carried.
