HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-24-1972 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session �c the City Administration Building on Monday, January 24, 1972 at 7:30 P.M. with the following members present: Mayor R. C. Macon, Councilmen: James P. Nix, Robert H. Cowen, John A.Robertson, Henry G. Bishop and Sam E. Box. Minutes of the previous regular and special meeting were approved. .Property behind City Garage was discussed and referred to the City Attorney. Mr. Newton Cox, Tennis Pro at Mobile Tennis Club, met with Council to discuss proposed tennis courts. After general dis- cussion Mayor Macon requested that Councilman Cowen, City Supt. Kirk and Chirman of the Recreation Board, Barney Shull, meet with the Mayor at 5:30 P.M. On Tuesday, January 25, 1972 to further discuss tennis courts. Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Box that the Mayor renew water and sewer note for 90 days and pay interest due In amount of $1150.00. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Box seconded by Councilman Cowen that Mike Rejczyk be commended on his Class 2 certification as Water Works Operator and his appointment to the committee of Certification Board of Alabama Water Pollution Control Association. Motion carried unanimously. Motion by Councilman Box seconded by Councilman Cowen that the City accept low bid submitted by Martin Builders, Inc., Mobile, Alabama, in the amount of $1,141,664.95 on Fairhope Sewage Treat- ment Facility WPC-ALA-204. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Box that the City send two men to Electric Meter School at the University of Alabama on March 13-16, 1972. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Robertson that bill of Mr. Ralph Kennamer, Attorney At Law, for represent- ing Chief Gilheart in United States District Court in civil suit of Randy Dowsey v Taylor Wilkins and Leo Gilheart, resulting in favor of defendant, be approved for payment. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Robertson seconded by Councilman Cowen that the following Resolution be adopted. Motion carried. RESOLUTION' WHEREAS, the CITY OF FAIRHOPE has been in litigation with the TOWN OF DAPHNE over a gas contract since September, 1962, and WHEREAS, by and through the Solicitors of Record for the CITY OF FAIRHOPE, Fairhope, Alabama, a settlement has been reach- ed with the TOWN OF DAPHNE through its Solicitors, and WHEREAS, the terms and conditions of the said settlement are in full accord with the authorities granted to the Solicitors of Record for the CITY OF FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council do hereby consent to the Decree as written, and ratify the Agreements contained therein. ADOPTED this the 24th day of January, 1972. Mayor Attest: City Clerk Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Nix that the City Superintendent and City Mechanic be authorized to purchase elbow truck in Biloxi, Mississippi if same meets requirements of the City of Fairhope. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Nix seconded by Councilman Robertson that the meeting adjourn. Motion carried. Approved Mayor Attest: City Clerk
