HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-09-1970 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at the Adult and Tourist Recreation Building on Monday, November 99 1970 at 7:30 P.M. with the following members present: Mayor R. C. Macon, Councilmen: James P. Nix, John A. Robertson, H. G. Bishop, Robert H. Cowen and Sam E. Box. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were approved. This being date set for opening bids on drilling of test wells, the City rejected all bids and unopened bids were returned to bidders. Mr. John Parker met with the Council to discuss Coosa River rate that the City of Fairhope is now purchasing power under from Alabama Power Company. Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Nix that the following Resolution be adopted: RESOLUTION BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF FAIAHOPE, ALABAMA, that NINETEEN THOUSAND FIFTY THREE AND 591100 ($199053.59) DOLLARS now held in the Reserve Fund of the Gas Account in the Merchants National Bank of Mobile, Alabama, and SIX THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED SIXTY THREE AND 78/100 ($6,763.78) DOLLARS now held in the Replacement Fund of the Gas Account in the Merchants National Bank of Mobile, Alabama be removed from said account funds and applied to the indebtedness incurred by the City of Fairhope in the construction of the new Municipal Pier. Motion carried. Mayor Attest: City Clerk Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Cowen that the $502.50 in the General Obligation Public Improvement Warrant Interest Account in the First National Bank of Fairhope be trans- ferred to the General Fund., Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Cowen that the Mayor apply for renewal of General Obligation Note at First National Bank of Fairhope until such time as the City receives money from the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation who is paying half of cost. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Nix that the bills be approved for payment. Motion carried. AMotion by Councilman Box seconded by Councilman Robertson that the City Council accept recommendation of the Planning Commission in rejecting request to rezone from R-2 to B-19 Lot 19, Block 16, Volanta Subdiv. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Cowen seconded by Councilman Box that the City Council rescind the following motionsmade at the regular meeting of October 12, 1970: " Motion by Councilman Robertson seconded by Councilman Cowen that the City Employees be given a 6% blanket raise based on existing salaries as presented to Council. Motion carried. Motio by Councilman Cowen secondedd b Coun itman Ro tson that olYce Department be given a Z% bylanke raise t with an additional $25.00 month pending receipt of same d from Safe Streets Act of Federal Government. Motion carried. Motion carried unanimously. Motion by Councilman Cowen seconded by Councilman Box that Council raise City Employees, exclusive of the Police Department, 6% of salary as of October 12, 1970. Motion carried. This being date set for opening bids on 1500' Cast Iron Pipe, 6" Mech. Jt. Tee and 6" Ductile pipe as per specifications, the following bids were received: American Cast Iron Pipe Company, Birmingham, Ala. 1500' - 6" Cast Iron Pipe 1.92 ft. 6" Ductile Pipe 2.28 ft. 6" Mech. No bid. Motion by Councilman Box seconded by Councilman Nix that J. Kirk and H. Huge evaluate bids and accept low bid provided it meets specifications. Motion carried.
