HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-27-1970 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA BA LDWI N COUNTY The City Council of the City ofFairhope met in regular session at the Adult and Tourist Recreation Building on Tues- day, October 27, 1970 at 7:30 P.M., with the following mem- bers present: mayor R. C. Macon, Councilmen: H. G. Bishop, James P. Nix, Sam E. Box, John A. Robertson. Councilman Robert H. Cowen was absent. Minutes of previous meeting were approved as written. Attorney Ernest Bailey reported that the appeal of Daphnetr-City of Fairhope gas case would be heard by the Su- preme Court in Montgomery at 10:00 A. M., on Wednesday, Nov., 11, 1970. Motion by Councilman Box, seconded by Councilman Nix p_�( that Ordinance No. 45#, An Ordinance Amending Section 13, Dis- -,*' trict Boundaries of Zoning Ordinance No. 2959 introduced at the regular meeting of October 12, 1970 be adopted as intro- duced. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Box, seconded by Councilman Nix that Ordinance No. 4567 An Ordinance Amending Section 13, District Boundaries of Zoning Ordinance No. 295, introduced at the regular meeting of October 12, 1970, be adopted as in- troduced. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Box, seconded by Councilman Nix, that the City proceed with the purchase of pipe, fittings, fire plugs and other material necessary for extension of 6" water line on Liberty Street between Pier and Orange Ave. Motion carried. Letter from Cecil Pitman, Agent for City Insurance was read and discussed. Motion by Councilman Bishop, seconded by Councilman Box, that the City Council approve payment of bill from Burford Equipment Co., for caterpillar repair. Motion carried. Opening of Laurel Avenue between Pomelo and Libertty Street as requested by absentee property owner was discussed, the decision being to take no action at this time. Motion by Councilman Box, seconded by Councilman Nix that the General Superintendent be authorized to purchase gas detecting instruments as required by Federal Gas Safety Laws; motion carried. The Police Department requested and were granted per- mission to purchase new typewriter. Attorney Dan Benton gave progress report on collection of delinquent paving assessments and requested advice on settlement of certain accounts. Council advised him that since accounts had been turned over to him, he had final de- termination of any settlements to be made. The Council agreed to place the usual City Advertisement in the High School Annual. Certain provisions of the Federal Safe Streets Act were discussed, but no decision reached. Motion by Councilman Nix, seconded by Councilman Robert- son that the General Superintendent be authorized to purchase the needed transformers and poles for electric line extension. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Bishop, seconded by Councilman Box that the City Council accept the annual report from the Public Library with compliments for an excellent piece of work. motion carried. Motion by Councilman Roberts, seconded by Councilman Nix that the City send one fireman andone policeman to Arson School in Tuscaloosa under agreement usual for such schools. Motion carried.
