HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-13-1970 Regular MeetingA STATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at the City Hall, Monday, July 13, 1970 with the follow- ing members present: Councilmen Nix, Cowen, Bishop, ff��obertson and Box. Mayor Macon being detained,, Mayor Pro tejlll resided at the meeting. Minutes of previous meeting were approved. Motion by Councjjman Robertson seconded by Councilman Box f} that Ordinance NO�/, An Ordinance Fixing and Establishing Grade of A Portion of Bon Secour Avenue, introduced at the re- gular meeting of June 23' , IW0 be adopted as introduced. Motion carried. Mr. Mike Ponder reported that he asked for three bids on resurfacing tennis courts and received one bid. Bid returned with request that he ask for additional bids for next meeting. Group interested in building new tennis courts at Greeno Park were requested to present their program at the next meeting of the Council. Mayor Macon arrived at the meeting at 8:00 P. M. , and pre- sidkdover the balance of the meeting. Motion by Councilman Robertson seconded by Councilman Bishop that the request of Victor Sign Company to install sign at Fairhope Floor Covering be tabled. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Box that Council authorize expenditures for Cecil Clemens to attend Conference at University of Alabama, July 28 thru July 30. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Nix seconded by Councilman Box that Mayor be authorized to negotiate with First National Bank of Fairhope for loan of $300,000.00 to be secured by General Obliga- tion, Street Improvement and General Purpose Warrants. Upon being put to vote the following vote was recorded: For: Council- men: Robertson, Box and Nix. Against: None. Councilmen Bishop and Cowen abstained from voting. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Robertson seconded by Councilman Nix that Fire Department be authorized to ask for' bids on 1,000 feet 21" fire hose and 600 feet 1i" fire hose as per specifications. Bids to be opened at next regular meeting on July 28, 1970. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Cowen seconded by Councilman Box that Mr. Roy Reynolds be supplied a copy of letter received from Department of Conservation regarding gasoline sign on Pier and informed that he is expected to live up to dictates of this letter within 30 days or sign will be removed by the City. Upon being put to vote the following vote was recorded. Voting for: Councilmen Bishop, Box, Robertson and Cowen. Voting Against: Councilman Nix. Motion carried. Councilman Box introduced the following Ordinance: . Motion by Councilman Robertson seconded by Councilman Cowen that caution light be installed at intersection of magnolia and Church Sts. Upon being put to vote the following vote was recorded. Voting for: Councilmen Robertson, Cowen and Nix. Voting against: Councilmen: Bishop and Box. motion carried. Motion by Councilman Robertson seconded by Councilman Bishop that public be advised that the schedule for trash pick-up will be Monday and Tuesday North of Fairhope Avenue and Thursday and Friday South of Fairhope Avenue. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Robertson that Council authorize purchase of pipe to complete drainage work on North Church Street from Magnolia to Oak. Motion died for lack of second. Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Cowen that Clerk be authorized to cash $20,000.00 Gasoline Tax Savings Certifi- cate. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Cowen that proper notice be given public that beginning July 28th the City Council awill meet in the Adult and Tourist Recreation Building. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Robertson seconded by Councilman Cowen that Street Department be authorized to install sidewalk, curb and gutter on Young Street from Nichols Street to City Limits, a pproxi-.°-- mately 1,320 feet.
