HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-10-1967 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at the City Hall, Monday, July 10, 1967 at 7:30 P.M. with the follow- ing members present: Mayor Macon, Councilmen: Spader, Reynolds, Stipes, Gaston and Stine. The minutes of the previous regular meeting were approved. Mr. Brooks Holliman, Hugo Marx and Company, met with the Council offer their services es Fiscal Agent for the City and presented a summary of services they would render as Fiscal Agent. No action taken. Mayor Macon reported that since the City was in error in advertis- ing a public hearing on a change in the B-2 Building Ordinance, it is being referred back to the Planning Board who must advertise and ac6 on it before it is referred to the Council. Mr. Walter Poser, Jr. presented poroposed plans for billing on I. B. M. Mayor Macon appointed Councilmen Gaston and Stipes and Exxective Assistant C. B. Niemeyer as a committee to study proposal and report to the Council. This being date set for public hearing on Ordinance No. 379, An Ordinance Amending Section 13 of Zoning Ordinance no. 295 by re- zoning from R-2 to R--3 a part of Parcel "D" known as the Brown property, the following protests were noted. Mrs. Jack Murphree, 54 DeFerriet Court. Mrs. 011ie Evans, 51 DeFerriet Court This being date set for public hearing on Ordlmnce No. 3809 An Ordinance Amending Section 13 of Zoning Ordinance No. 295 be re- zoning from R-1 to R-3 the property known as Hollis Leavins proper the following protests were noted. Mr. Wm. Lauten, representing Felix Burkert and his daughter. Mr'. A. J. Turner. Report on ambulance service for the City was carried over until the next regular meeting of the Council for additional information. This being date set for opening bids on demolishing and removing the Casino building, the following bids were received: Woodrow Wilson - Wreck and remove building and saw off piling at ground level. $39900.00 Require 60 working days. J. Dudley Wade - Dismantle and remove building in manner acceptable to City with piling left in ground for $3,345.00 or cut piling below ground surface for $3,445.00., All usable material retained and balance of rotten wood and trash burned on site. Require 60 working days. Eugene Bosby - Demolish building and remove rubbish from premises. $49200.00/ Fairhope Paving Company - Demolish building, materials not hauled off to be burned at site, rubble to be hauled to City owned gully adjacent to Grammar School for the sum of $12,500. Piling to be removed for unit price of $50900 each. Require 90 working days. R. Roy Reynolds - Give $25.00 for right to set fire to Casino and let Volunteer Fire Department control burning. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Spader seconded by Councilman Stipes that Mr. Kirk be authorized to purchase load of pipe from American Cast Iron Pipe Company under our present contract. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Reynolds seconded by Councilman Gaston that Mr. Niemeyer, Executive Assistant, be authorized to attend City Managers Convention in New Orleans, October 8-12. Motion carried. Public hearing on proposed Ordinance No. 379 having been held and all protest noted, Councilman Reynolds moved, Councilman Stine seconded that Ordinance No. 379 be adopted as recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission and introduced at the regular meeti of June 12, 1967. Upon being put to vote the following vote was recorded: For: Councilmen: Spader, Reynolds, Stipes, Gaston and Stine. Against: None. Motion carried and Ordinance duly adopted. Public hearing on proposed Ordinance No. 380 having been held and all protest noted, Councilman Reynolds moved, Councilman Gaston seconded that Ordinance No. 380 be adopted as recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission and introduced at the regular meeting of June 12, 1967. Upon being put to vote the following vote was recorded: For: Councilmen; Spader, Reynolds, Stipes, Gaston and Stine. Against: None. Motion carried and Ordinance duly adopted. Motion by Councilman Stipes seconded by Councilman Stine that the City employ the firm of Thornton, Farish and Gauntt, Inc. as Fisca Agent under same proposal as originally made with the City. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Reynolds seconded by Councilman Stipes that the following Resolution be adopted: RESOLUTION BE IT RESOLVED, that in so much as the City desires to con- struct a new Pier and other recreational facilities on the City's Beach Front area, and the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation has matchin money for this purpose, the City hereby instructs the City Enginee to proceed to apply for said assistance and report progress at the next meeting of the City Council.
