HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-27-1967 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City'Council of the City -of Fairhope met in regular session at -the City Hall, Monday, February 27, 1967 with the following members presents Mayor R._C. Macon, Councilmen: R. J. Spader; R. Roy_Reynolds, J. A.'Stipes, J. E. Gaston, Jr., and R. H. Stine Minutes of the previous regular meeting were approved. Mr. Lacey, Chairman of the Airport Board requested the Council to pave parking area south of present hanger at the Municipal Airport and spread top soil before contractor spreads grass seed. Motion by Councilman Reynolds, seconded by Councilman Stine that the City approve request for paving parking area and spreading top soil as recommended by Airport Board, using City labor and equipment as much as possible. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Stine seconded by Councilman Gaston that application for Beer permit at Audrey's Restaurant be approved. Upon being put to vote, the following vote was recorded: For, Councilmen Stine and Gaston, Against:. Councilmen Stipes, Rey- nolds and Spader. Motion defeated. Motion by Councilman Reynolds seconded by -Councilman Stine that the request of Beasley Nursing Home be tabled. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Gaston that all capital improvements for Recreation be made by the City Council as they see fit and that ti Recreation Board be relieved of their obligation to the City for balance on recent loan made for capital improvements. This actioi taken as result of request by Recreation Board for additional funds. Motion seconded by Councilman Stine and carried. Motion by Councilman Spader seconded by Councilman Stipes that Ordinance #374, an Ordinance Amending Section 13 of Ordinance #2959 be adopted as introduced at the regular meeting of Feb. 13, 1967. Motion carried. Motion.by Councilman Stipes seconded by Councilman Gaston that the City accept high bid of Angelo Mattei for 1961 Ford Falcon pick -Up, Motion carried. _ Motion by Councilman Spader seconded by Councilman Stine that one policeman be authorized to attend police School, February 28 and March 1st and 2nd in Montgomery, Alabama.'Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Spader seconded by Councilman Stipes that at the request of City Employees, City Clerk be authorized to deduct insurance for City employees who have signed up for pay- roll deduction on Employee Group Dependent plan, it being under- stood that the City not participate in any way except the with- holding from pay roll, to be effective March 15, 1967. Upon .,:being put to vote the following vote was recordeds For: Council- men Stipes, Gaston, Spader. Against: Councilman Reynolds and Stii Motion carried. Mayor -Macon read the following results of the Referendum held on February 149 1967.` Yes---490 No ---310 Motion by Councilman Stine seconded by Councilman Reynolds that Council accept results of referendum and made a part of the minutE of this meeting. Motion carried. le. P Motion by Councilman Reynolds seconded by Councilman Spader that the Recreation Board be authorized to proceed with plans for opening of the Swimming Pool in accordance with referendum held on February 14, 1967. motion carried. Motion by Councilman Reynolds seconded by Councilman Stipes that the following Resolution be adopted. motion carried. !g9 Ir j llT7 TJTRTT All RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the CITY OF FAIRHOPE is now in the process of expanding it's park facilities, along the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay, and WHEREAS, the CITY OF FAIRHOPE has been unsuccessful in it's effort to acquire the property at the West end.of Fairhope.Avenue known as the CASINO and it's premises by purchase, and WHEREAS, the acquisition.of the property would be in the -public interest and necessary for.public use and park lands, now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED that the CITY' OF FAIRHOPE. through.it's right of eminent domain as set.out in Title Nineteen, Section One,.et seq, and Title Thirty-seven, Section 507,.et.seq, of the 1940 Code of Alabama as recompiled in 1958,proceed with the acquisition of the property hereinafter described to be used as park purposes which said property is more particularly described as follows: A lot of land 92.5 feet, more or -less, in its Easterly and Westerly dimensions, and 155 feet, more or less, in its Northerly and Southerly dimensions., the Easterly and Westerly boundaries being parallel to one another, and the Northerly and Southerly boundaries being parallel to one another, located at the shore end of the Fairhope Wharf and on the North side thereof, being listed in the records of Fairhope Single Tax Corporation as. "Tract A" on Beach, Division 1, of the lands of Fairhope.Single Tax Corporation, Fairhope, Baldwin County, Alabama, lying in Fractional. Section 18, Township 6 South, Range 2, Baldwin County, Alabama. BE. IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a.Pe.tition for Order of Comdennation be filed forthwith -in the Office of the Judge of Probate of Baldwin County, Alabama naming as the owners.of the hereinabove.described property FAIRHOPE SINGLE TAX CORPORATION, a corporation organized and existing under the laws of the State. of Alabama, and GEORGE. J. MITCHELL and wife, BARBARA VALLAS MITCHELL. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City -Attorney file the said Petition for Order of Condemnation forthwith. ADOPTED this the 27th day of February, 1967.
