Baldwin The> C i ty Counc-i I of the C i ty of- Fa i rhope met in regu I ar session at the C i ty Hali I., Monday, May 28, 1962 with. the fol I ow9rr9 members present: Mayor Schneider, Councilmen Boone, Gaston, Nelson, Poser and Schermer. The minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved as read . A letter from Nelson Holmberg, lnc., requesting gas service to Nursery on Oberg Road was read and discussed and. referred to the City A ttorney and City Superintendent for further study. Action to be taken at the next regular meeting of the Counci I on J1une 11, 1962. Mr. John Huffman presented: proposed subdivision development on Monroe Smith property. The City Attorney and City Superintendent were requested to make an-.anaiy s%s to be presented at the next regular meeting of: the City Counci 1. Counc.Ilman Boone reported: on the meeting with a committee on: organizing a Youth Council andr introduced the following: Resolution which was seconded by C ounc. i l man Nelson. Action to be taken at the next regular meeting of the Council:.. Upon being petitioned by the following young people: Dana Patrick., Mike Arnold, Richard, Horne, Susan Blatchford, Gus Boone, Fred Blosser, Lawrence, Thomas, Whitney Cadwel1, Susan Sheldon, Marshall Bishop, Betty Ray, Alan Hoffman and. Barry Gaston, It is Hereby Resolved that the City Council favors the formation of a Youth Council provided that the Youth forming this Council. realize that the success of this project restswith them. A letter from Social organizations in Fairhope reque.s.ting the Council to investigate the rental fee for. use of the:Armory was read and discussed. The Business Administrator was instructed to write State Officials stating that the City had been petitioned on cost of Armory, cost was out of line and requesting that State Officials and City Council discuss the whole program. An Ordinance to adopt news Code of Ordinances alas postponed for further study; �_A Letter from the Chamber of Commerce requesting the City to set up a Board or Commission of the City empowered to obtainan airport was read ands discussed. The Business Administrator was instructed to acknowledge receipt of the letter and the project was turned overr�he: W anning Board. A committee consisting of: Dr. Mu I I ins, Ed War I ey, C ounc i I man Gaston and Council— man Neilson was appointed to further study themeans of obtaing an airfield in this area and report their findings to the Planning Board. Motion qy:C ouncilman Nelson seconded by Councilman Gaston that the City do the grading and base work on Ingleside Avenue from Nichols Street to Middle Street and -.on Middle Street from Young Street to Ingleside in preparation for 2 mile of free paving from the State,. the other 2 mile to be at the. National Guard Armory. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Nelson seconded by Councilman Boone that the f o I l ow i ng ResDl.ution be adopted: Motion carried. BE I T RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUI- 1 L that the City .request the: State to resurface approximately one mile of streets in Colonial Acres based on the 1961 resurfacing prograrn. )'Ih Motion by Councilman Boone seconded by u ounciIman Nelson that Mayor Schneider and. Councilman Schermer be authorized to employ a Certified Public Accountant to make, an audit of Gas, Water and Sewer expenditures covered by the $1,000,000 Bond Issue. Motion carried.
