The City Counc i I of the City of F"a i rhope met in regular session a,t the
Ctty Hall, Monday, January 22, 1962 with the following members presentr.
Mayor Schneider, Councilmen: Boone, Oastoni, Nelson and Schermer. CounciU--
man Poser being absent.
Motion by Councilman Boone seconded: by Councilman Nelson that they dispense
with the reading of the minutes. Motion carried.
Mrs. Thomas Horme, Conservation Chairman of Region 8 of the Gardon Club
of Alabama and .representatives from various garden clubs to the viclaity
met with the Counc i I requesting the Counc i I to consider a Resolution
declaring the,City Limits of Fa:irhope as a wi:IdlHe sanctuary and told of
the C onserrva,t i on C on-ference to be hel d i n Fa i rh open on February 2, 1962.
Motion.by Councilman Nelson seconded by Councilman Boone that the following,
Resolution be adopted. Motion carried.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE C ITY COUNC 1 L OF THE C I TY OF FA IRHOPE, ALABAMA
that the Mayor and City Councif commend the garden clubs and other interested
c i ti zerrs for their efforts to inform themselves on the need for a wild life
sanctuary and the preservation of habitat for birds and other forms of w i I d.
life, both plant and animal,. and do hereby declare. they will weldome more
information about the pass ibi I iity of dec. 1,aring Fairhope a Wi Id.t i f e Sanctuary.
Mr. Roy Lloyd, Southern Bell Telephone Company, met with the Council pertaining
to group Alerting System for fire and police department.- No action taken at
this t i me.
Mr. J. F. Dusenbury, Baldwin County C oordF,nator fc4rCiviI Defense, appeared
before the Counc i t roApmx presented his ideas and, general ppl ans for C i v ii (
Defense measurers and also requested copies of the City of Fairh ope Ordinance
on C iv i Ii Defense and the complement of our organization. Mr. Byrne was
directed to comply with his requests.
Motion by Councilman Boone seconded1by Councilman Nelson that the following
Resolution be adopted. Motion carried.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE C I;TY C O(JNC I L OF THE CITY OF FA I RHOFE ,ALABAMA
that the. Merchants Nat i ,)nal Bank of Mobile, as trustee for the City of
Fairhope Water, Gas and Sewer Revenue Bonds, dated December 1, 1961, has,
the authority to invest and reinvest the moneys of- the Reserve and Replacement
Funds of the above mentioned Bond Series in U. S. Government Notes or Bonds,
including the income earned from such funds without further -authority. This
action to be in accordance with the provisions of the Trust Indenture between
The City and the Merchants N&tiona.l Bank of Mobile.
Motion by Councilman Boone: seconded by Councilman Gaston that the following
Resolution be adopted. Motion carried.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE C I TY C OUM1C I L OF THE C I TY OF FA I RH OPE , ALABAMA:
SECTION I. That the City arrange to receive bids at the earliest
practicable date for the connecting water line to the new elevated tank and
for the proposed gas transmission main.
SECTPON 2. That the: plans for the gas transmission main be limited to a
Line from Stapleton to the Busy Bee Corner via Highway 31, the Belforest Road
and Fa i rhope Avenue, a3 I i ne from the Busy Bee Corner. to Highway 9& ( Section S t. )
by way of Greeno Boulevard North and Highway 104, a line from the Busy Bee
Corner to Highway 98 by way of Greeno Boulevard and the Twin Beach Road and
a I i ne from K lumpp' s Airport corner to the F a i rhope Clay Products Company,
prov i ded howeer that the 1 i ne to Fal i rhope C I ay Produc is not be constr. uc ted
until a satisfactory contract, for the purchase of gas has been executed by
the Fa i rhope C I ay Products C ompany and approved by they C i,ty Counc i 1,.
SECTION 3. That the City C l.erk notify the Engineer to proceed: with
the preparation of plans and, specifications for the work as outlined herein.

the C i ty° s 1.962 paving; project was read. The Col ony also agreed to. have the i r
portion of Pomelo S-treet included provided the other property owners agree
to pay their share of the cost.
Motion,by Councilman Nelson seconded by Councilman Gaston that the three
regular f i remen� be as lowed $ 75,00 per year per- man to cover un i;form expense.

Road i s a d i sgrace, to the c i ty of Fa i rhope.
Your consideration toward: getting these much traveled streets in proper
maintenance is, requested.
It is a.l.so requested that this Letter be read and.recorded in the minutes

letter be referred Rio the County Commission as street contained in the above letter
are outside the City Limits of Fairhope Motion carried.
The City Council agreed to proceed with the: advertisement for sealed bids on the
Street Improvements for the City as contained in Ordinance # 84 as amended.
Bids to be opened at the: regular meeting of the City C ounc i'l on March- 12, 1962.
Motion by Councilman Boone seconded by Councilman Nelson that the City advertise
for bids on. two standard T ton pick-up trucks, bids to be opened at the next
regu I.ar meeting of the City Council: on February 12, 1962'. Motion carried.
It was duly moved and seconded! that the meeting adjourn. Motion carried.

Gentlemen:
I request your attention to the deplorable conditions of
the dirt streets in the Hountonville section.
Young Street, the first street turning right off Young
Street in front of Senny Bolars' and Ingleside Avenue
south of Morphy Avenue on to Twin Beach Road is a disgrace
to the city of Fairhope.
Your consideration toward getting these much traveled streets
in proper maintanoe is requested.
It is also requested that this letter be read and recorded
in the minutes of a regular meeting of the council.
