HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-24-1960 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA County of Bail dwi n The City Counc i.l of the City of Fa i rhope met in regular session at the City Hall, Monday, October 24, 1960 with the following members present: Mayor Joe Schneider, Councilmen: Boone, Gaston, Nelson, Poser and Schermer. The minutesof the previous regular meeting were read and approved as read. ;Motion by Councilman Poser, seconded by Councilman Gaston that the City Attorney be authorized to advertise for invitation to bid on hauling garbage inn the :residential area only, bids to be opened at the regular meeting of the City Council on November 28, 1960. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Poser seconded. by Councilman Boone that,the City accept (.ow bid of Gaston Motor Company, Inc., for Economy Pick —Up at a cost of $1,591.00. Upon being put to vote the following vote was recorded: Voting for: Councilmen: Boone, Nelson, Poser and Schermer. Voting No; None. Councilman Gaston not voting. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Schermer seconded by Councilman Poser that the following Resolution be adopted: Motion carried. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FA IRHOPE, ALABAMA that the Merchants. National Bank of Mob le as Trustee for Water and Sewer 4 31Vo Second Series Bonds,. be authorized to pay-, when presented for payment $4,000.00 principal amount Second Series Bonds, due 1986, on a 106 basis plus accrued interest. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED thaf $4,G89.00 plus. accrued interest on deposit in the Surplus Fund be applied toward the redemption of the bonds and the balance of a51.00 that will be due be paid from the Water and Sewer Revenue Account. Mr. Cecil Pitman met with the Council pertaining to sewer installation at Ridgewood Estates.. Mayor Schneider appointed Councilman Boone and Councilman Poser to work out this problem with Mr. Pitman. A proposed gas contract with Spanish Fort Estates was presented and turned over to Councilmen Boone and Poser. Three bids were received on gasoline for four year period. Motion by Council— man Schermer seconded by Councilman Poser that the City accept low bid of Standard Oil Company for four year period._ Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Schermer seconded by Councilman Gaston that a street light be installed at intersection of Ingleside and Gayfsr. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Nelson seconded by Councilman Gaston that street light be installed on Fels Avenue between Section and Oswalt Streets. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Schermer: seconded by Councilman Nelson that Mr. Julius: King be appointed. Public Relations Director at a salary of $100.00 per month and that he be paid for the month of October, 1960. Motion by Councilman Boone that C ouncilman Schermer's motion be tabled for two weeks. Motion died for lack of second. The Mayor then called for vote on Councilman Schermer's motion: with the following resuIts: Voting for; Councilmen Boone, Gaston, Nelson, Poser and Schermer.. Voting No:: None. Motion died for Lack of second. The Mayor then ca+lIed for vote on C ouncilman'Gastonts motion with the following results: Voting for: Councilmen Boone, Gaston, Poser and Nelson. Councilman Schermer not voting. Motion carried. Motion by Counc i Iman Nelson seconded by C ouncilman Poser that E. E. Newell be appointed as Assistant -Chief at a salary of $365.00 per month. Upon being put to vote the fol Lowing; vote was recorded: Voting for: Councilmen: Boone, Gaston, Poser and Nelson, Voting Against: None Councilman Schermer not voting. Motion carried. Appe- Lion from residents. of Montrose protesting the incorporation of Montrose in the City Limuts of Fairhope was presented to the Council. Representatives of the Montrose area met with the Council requesting that they be consulted before any action is taken by the City Council on incorporating Montorse into the City Limits. Motion by Councilman Poser seconded by C ouncilman Boone that the City Attorney be instancted to draw up earnest money agreement for purchase of approximately 23 acres of land on South Section Street at a cost of $13,800.00 subject to owner furnishing evidence of title. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Boone: seconded by Councilman Nelson that the City purchase a. Back Hoe Bucket at a cost of $105.00 F.O.B. Fairhope. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Nelson seconded by Councilman Gaston that the Auxiliary Police Force be discontinued. Voting for: Councilmen: Boone, Easton, Poser and Nelson. Voting No: Councilman Schermer. Motion carried.
