The minutes of the previous regular meeting: were read and on motion by Councilman Schermer seconded by Councilman Gaston, were approved as read. Motion carried. Mr. L. C. t"liggins submitted the fol lowing complaints to the Counci I: Driveway on City property on Liberty between Pecan and Pinecrest washed out. Shack being built on Pamela and Pinecrest. Petition presented previously to pave Pinecrest from Liberty, to Pamela be made a part of the minutes. C ounciI consider an Ordinance to stop overnight parking am the streets. Mr. Donald Mills, Engineer and Mr. Hugh Morrow, Jr., of Watkins, Morrow and Company discussed' with the Council the advantagesand disadvantages .of forming a Utilities Board. Mo t i cn by C ounc i I man Schermer seconded by Councilman Gaston that Workmen's Compensation pal icy and Gas System Public LiabiCFty, Fire and Extended coverage on gas system -equipment policies be approved for payment. Motion carried.. C ounc i lmen Boone. and Poser were appointed to draw up specifications for garbage contract for the next rne.et 1ng of the Counc i 1. Mo t i on by C ounc i I man Boone seconded by Counc i I man Ne I son that Mr. P g1t1maor,11 s Ge check. for sewer installation- be returned and that Mr. Pitmanni�ppeare e the -City Council with any proposition for sewer installation. Motion.carried. Motion by C ounci'lman Schermer seconded by Councilman Boone that the complaint of Mr. Bain on paving assessment be turned over to the City Attorney. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Schermer seconded by Councilman Boone that bids be let on a four year basis for gasoline. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Schermer seconded by Councilman Nelson that the follow- ing Resolution be adopted. Motion carried. BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairhope, Alabama that checks v drawn on any and aill funds of the City of Fairhope shall be signed by Joe Schneider, Mayor, and Marie Moore, City Clerk, and banks in which accounts of the City of Fairhope are carried are hereby authorized and directed to honor checks drawn on City funds signed as.herein above provided. Motion by Councilman Schermer seconded by Councilman Boone• that the City take one-half page ad in the Fairhope Hiigh School Annua.L. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Schermer that Mr. Kirk be authorized to run electric service to the Organic School Work Shop. Motion carried. The City Attorney and Councilman Gaston were appointed. to investigate the possibility of extending the City Limits. Motion by Councilman Schermer seconded by Councilman Boone that the meeting adjourn. Present at said meeting: Joe Schneider, duly elected as Mayor, and L. I. Boone, J. E. Gaston, Jr. W. J'. Nelson, k1. 0. Poser and Alton E. Signed The sajid Mayor and City Council having been duly elected and qualified:, and all being present, the mayor cfilled the meeting to order and upon roll call noted the following membersas, presentt Joe Schneider, L. 1. Boone, J. E. Gaston, Jir. W. J'. Nelson,, W. 0. Poser and Alton E. Schermer; Marie Moore the former Clerk being present and acting,a.s temporary Clerk, whereupon Joe Schne Weras Mayor presiding announced that the first order of business was the lorer election of C I.erk and treasurer, and fixing the salary of such off -ice; Upon nomination, duly made, there being no other nomination., Marie \Moore was unanimously elected as clerk and treasurer; and upon motion of Councilman Schermer seconded by Councilman Gaston the following resolution fixing the salary of the clerk was adopteds BE IT RESOLVED by this C ouncil that the salary of the clerk, who shall a[ so acts as treasurer, be and the same is hereby fixed at $ 20.00_ per iponth payable on the Ist and 15th of each calendar month, for the term of: four years commencing with this date. Provided however, that the City Council reserves the right at any time dufri'ng such term to decrease or increase such salary and to dismiss the said Marie Moore as clerk and treasurer with or without cause:. She shall give bond in the sum of $5,0000.00 conditioned aasJrequired by law. V On motion by Councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Boone the following Resolution was unanimously adoptedt BE IT RESOLVED that E. G. Rickarby be and he is hereby employed as City Attorney to perform such services ais required of h i m by the City Council and that he shall be paid $50.00 per month on the Ist day of each month. Motion by Councilman Schermer seconded by C ounailman Poser that E. E. Newell be appointed as Acting Chief of Police. Motion by Councilman Nelson that Cecil Clemens•be appointed as Acting Chief of Police. There being no second Councilman Schermer moved that the nominat- ions be closed. The Mayor then called f or * ac vote on the am* motion, by Councilman Schermer seconded by Councilman Poser: that E. E. Newell be appointedi as Acting Chief of Police with the following result-. Voting Yes: Councilmen: L. 1. Boone, J'. E. Gaston, Jr. W. 0. Poser and Alton E. Schermer, Voting Agari nstt Ne+Ason. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Nelson seconded! by Councilman Boone that Mr. Sim; Stevens be appointed: as Court Recorder. Upon being put to vote the follow— ing vote was .recorded. Voting For: Mayor Schneider, Councilmen: Boone, Gaston, Nelson, Poser andSchermer. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Boone that George Dyson be appointed) as,General Superintendent over all outside work in all depart— ments of the City. Upon being put to vote the following vote was recorded: Voting for: Mayor Schneider,, Counc i I men: Boone, Gaston, Nelson, Poserr and Schermer. Voting No. None. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Nelson seconded by C ouncilman Poser that Councilman Boone and E. J. Kirk be appointed, -,to the Fairhope Planning Board. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Boone secondediby Councilman Gaston that Councilman Schermer be elected, as Mayor Pro Tem. Motion carried, The Mayor appointed the following Councilmen as C ommis.sioners> of the various departments of the City& Councilmen Nelson and Gaston,— Fire and Police C ounciI-ien Poser & Boone — UtiIities, Parks. and Streets. C ounc i l man Schermer — Finance Motion by Councilman Gaston seconded by Councilman Poser that the regular meetings of the City Council be held on,the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month ate- 7:30: P.M. Voting Yes: C ounc i I mens Boone., Gaston, Nelson and Poser. Voting; No, Counc.i I man Schermer. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Schermer -that the meeting adjourn.
