County of Baldwin
The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at the
City HaII„ Monday, July 12', 1960 with the following members present:
Mayor E. B. Overton, City Manager C. B. Niemeyer, Councilmerr: C. F. Belew,
M. 0. Bergl ini, W. 0. Poser, W. R. Ruffles and B. L. Shull.
Motion by Councilman Shull seconded by Councilman Poser that the minutes of
the previous regular meeting be approved as read. Motion carried.
Mr. King, Public Relations Director, suggested that signs be placed on
Highways entering the. -City and presented; a small painting of type of sign
to be used. He further suggested that Greetings from Fairhope cards be
placed in Hotels, Motels, Restaurants etc. for use of patrons.
Motion by Councilman Ruffles seconded by Councilman Belew that the City
place order for 2,000 cards as suggested, by Mr. King, cards to be paid
from the Electric Fund. Motion carried.
Mr. W. F. Hawie requ9sted a beer permit for downstairs at the Casino.
Motion by Councilman Belew seconded by Councilman Ruffles that Mr. Haw,ie's
request be denied and that question be reconsidered at ghe beginning of
the license year. Upon being put to vote the following vote was recorded:
Voting for adoption of motion: C ouncilment Belew, Ruffles and Shull. Voting
against adoption of motion: Mayor Overton,. Councilmen Berglin and Poser.
The Mayor voted a:secondivote to break. the iie. Motion defeated.
Motion by Councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Berglin that Mr. Hawie
be granted Beer Permit for ground floor of the Casino, excluding the Bowl,ing
Alley, and if establishment is not run in satisfactory manner the license be
revoked. Upon being put tp vote the foblow,ing vote was recordedt Voting
for adoption of motions Mayor Overton, Councilmen: Berglin and;Poser. Voting
against adoption of Motion: Councilmen: Belew, Ruffles and Shull. The Mayor
cast a second vote to break the tie. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Shull. seconded by Councilman Belew that the following
bills be approved for payment: Motion carried.
