The C it (Y Councit of the City of Fairhope met in regular session Monday,
February29, 1960 with the following members present: Mayor E. B. Overton,
City iAanager L. B. Niemeyer, Councilmen: M. 0. Berglin, C. F. Belew,
W. 0, Poser, W. R. Ruffles.and B. L. Shull.
Motion by Councilman Shull seconded by Councilman Ruffles that the minutes
of the previous regular meeting be approved as read. Motion carried.
Mr. Isadore Reynolds requested that a caution light be installed at the
intersection of Volanta and Section streets and protesting the Stop Signs at
the intersection of Silverhill Highway and Highway 9G.
Motion by a ouncilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Shull that the Mayor
be authorized to write a letter to the State Highway Department :recommending
that they make another survey of the intersection of Highway 98 and the
Silverhill Highway. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Shull seconded by Councilman Belew that the Council
recommend to the County Commissioners that voting be changed from the
City Fire Station to Fort Reil Armory. Motion carried.
Motion by C ouncilman Belew seconded by C ouncilman Berglin that a street
light be installed on Gayfer Street and Camellia Court as requested.
Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Belew seconded by Councilman Ruffles that the application
to build vegetable stand on North Section Street be approved. Motion
carried.
The application of L. I. Boone to locate trailer at 215, Fairhope Avenue
was held for further study.
Application of John Allison to enlarge garage on Nichols Street was rejected
by the Council..
A petition regpesting the Council to open North Inglside to South Ingleside
was discussed and held until cost could be determined.
Motion by Councilman Ruffles seoonded by Councilman Shull that Mr. E. P.
Wakefield be reappointed to the Recreation Board for a period of Five
years beginning March 11:, 11960. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Ruffles seconded by Councilman Belew, that the Council
go on record as supporting the Recreation Board in their pfans•for a
Community Civic Center and request the Board to keep the Council informed
as to their progress. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Belew that the following
emplioyee-s be g i ven a 5f pay increase effective - March 1, 1960: George Dyson,
E. J. Kirk, Henry Creamer, Marie Moore and C. B. Niemeyer. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Berglin that the following
Resolution be adopted. Motion carried.
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairhope that the
salary of the Mayor of the `'ity of Fairhope, under Section 462 of Title 37
of the Code of Alabama of 1940 as amended, be and the same is hereby fixed
at $1800.00 a year, payable in twelve installments of $150.00 each, payable
on the first day of each calendar month. In the event the 1960 census shows an
increase in the population of the City of Fairhope to 5,000 or more, the
Mayor's salary is fixed at $2500.00 a year, payable in twelve installments
of $ o� 6g. �j each, payable on the first day of each calendar month.

BE 1'T FURTHER RESOVED that the compensation of each of the Counc i I
members of the City Council of the City of Fairhope,. under Title 37,
Section 404, C ode: of Alabama as amended., be and the same is hereby fixed at
440,00 a: month and shall be payable for each month at the first regular
meeting Tn the next succeeding calendar month.
I't was duly moved and seconded that the meeting adjourn. Motion carried.
