WAYNE HUGHES VINCENT J. KLEIN T. L. McCANN Fairhope, Alabama February 8, 1960 PAUL D. STRICKLAND. onorable Mayor and Members of Town Council Town of Fairhope Fairhope, Alabama Gentlemen: The spring of 1960 marks a milestone in the history of Fairhope with the opening of the new Thomas Hospital. Although it will serve the entire Eastern Shore, its location within the city limits .makes it our own. This is a hospital for which we are all extremely proud, a sight every Fairhopian and iastern Shore Resident will view with pride, show his friends and his visitors. We should have no reason or occasion to make excuses of any kind for so modern and humanitarian an institution. It is with this thought and feeling that we call your attention to the need for paving the street which lies to the CFest and is ajacent to the hospital and also the need for widening and re -surfacing i.Iorphy Avenue be- tween Section Street and Greeno Road. This is the rain approach - the first impression. :Te must not overlook also the functional need for this paving and widening project. It has been estimated that traffic will increase at least 200010 the day the hospital opens and will continue to grow with the addition of business and professional offices in this vicinity. ITow is the time for you as leaders of the City to take positive action and have these two projects completed by the time the hospital opens in June, 1960. For these are the things that show. These are the things of which everyone approves. These are the steps taken by men of positive action - men like yourselves. Gentlemen, we respectfully request that you give these projects your sanction and approval. And, that an announcement of these projects be made in the local papers so that the many citizens who have inquired about this will know that it is to be done. Very truly yours, X . /ge John :ti.
