HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-12-1959 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA ,,County of Baldwin The City Council of the Uity ofFairhope met in regular session at the City Hall, October 12, 1959 with the following members present: Mayor E. B. Overton, City Manager C. B. Niemeyer, Councilmen: C. F. Belew, M. 0. Berglin, W. 0. Poser, W. R. Ruffles and B. L. Shull. Motion by Councilman Shull seconded by Councilman Poser that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved as read. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Poser that the permit of Jack Stapleton for addition to building at 110 South Section Street be approved. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Shull seconded by Councilman Berglin that Reuben Rock- well be granted permission to park trailer on his lot in Golf Course -Sub- division for six months while building his home, provided-the*tcai ler: is connected to sanitary facilities. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Shull seconded by Councilman Berglin that Mr. Bagneil be granted permit tb build porch on his home at Bayview and Oak. Motion carried. Jack Kirk, Electrical Superintendent, reported that he had inspected the Fairhope Casino and recommended that the electric service be discontinued until the wiring has been repairedaccording. to the electrical code. The Council agreed that the Mayor write Mr. Hawie and his attorney advising them to get- a contractor to check the Casino to see what repairs are needed to comply with the building Code. The following Ordinance was introduced by Councilman Belew, and_ read to the meeting. / ORDINANCE # / AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND PARAGRAPH B, SECTION 2, OF ORDINANCE #132. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE, ALA. that Paragraph B. Section 2' of Ordinance #132 be amended to read as follows: (b) All pipe shall be vitrified clay, cast iron, cement asbestos, or plastic sewer pipe which shall cover only semirigid: plastic pipe manufactured from a class of material known as a copolymer of polystyrene compounded for high impact :resistance, lightness and minimum elongation. This_ material is to be extruded in its true form and not adulterated by the addition or subtraction of any basic component. Such pipe shall have a crushing strength of not less than 800 lbs. per lineal ft. in accordance with ASTM - C - 4 - 55 of not less than Ott inside diameter. Councilman Poser moved that the rules be suspended and unanimous consent be given for immediate consideration of and action on said Ordinance, which motion was seconded by Councilman Berglin and upon being put to vote the following vote was recorded:. Voting Fort. Mayor Overton, Councilmen: Belew, Berglin, Poser, Ruffles and Shull. Against: None. The Mayor thereupon declared that the motion for unanimous consent for immediate consideration of and action on said Ordinance has been unanimously carried. Councilman Shull thereupon moved that the said Ordinance be finally adopted which motion was seconded by Councilman Ruffles and upon said motion being put to vote the following vote was recordedr Voting Fort Mayor Overton, Councilmen: Belew, Berglin, Poser, Ruffles and Shull. Against: None. The Mayor then announced that the motion for adoption of said Ordinance had been unanimously carried and signed the same in approval thereof. / Motion by Councilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Belew,-that the following bills be approved for payments Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Shull seconded by Councilman Belew that the Mayor and City Attorney be authorized to negotiate with Lake Forest on provisi'tns of contract.. Motion carried. Parking meters were discussed and the City Manager was instructed to check on the insurance for next season. The Police Department met with the Council requesting an increase in wages. Mayor Overton appointed Councilmen: Belem, Poser and Ruffles as a committee to check on wage increases for the various department. Mayor Overton appointed C. B. Niemeyer and Councilmen Berglin and Shull as a committee to report on the free services of the City. Motion by councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Belew-that the bill of Beebe and Swearingen be approved for payment out of the Paving Construction Fund. Moti-)n carried.
