County of Baldwin
The City Council of the City of Fairhope met on August 11, 1959 with the
following members presents: Mayor E. d. Overton, Lity Manager C. B. Niemeyer,
Councilmen: C. r. Belew, W. 0. Poser, W. R. Ruffles, Jr. andB. L. Shull.
Councilman M. 0. Berglin being absent.
Motion by Lounci[man Shull seconded by Councilman Poser that the minutes of
the previous meeting be approved as read. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Ruffles seconded by Councilman Belew that the City Clerk
be authorized to transfer $15,000.00 from the Electric Fund to the General
Fund:. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Shull seconded by Councilman Belew that the Chamber of
Commerce be granted permission to hang sign from the wire supporting the
traffic light at the corner of Fairhope Avenue and Church Street as requested.
Motion carried.
A Fetter, from Mrs. Myrtle B. Slye and Mrs. Evalyn B. Porter pertaining to
their beach property in the City Park area was read to the Council. It was
agreed that the City could not purchase this property and would instruct the
Recreation Board to remove any equipment they had on this property.
Then0mination for the Board of Equalization which was held over from previeu s
meeting was brought up for discussion. Councilman Poser nominated Mr. Sim
Stevens and Councilman Belew nominated Mr. R. C. Macon. Upon being put to
vote the following vote was recorded: Voting for Mr. Macon: C ounciImen Belew
and Shubl. V oting for Mr. Stevenst Councilmen Poser and Ruffles and Mayor
Overton.
Mr. Kirk, Electric Superintendent, presented bids for transformers and electric
equipment needed for the Thomas Hospital. Motion by Councilman Belew seconded
by Councilman Poser that the City accept low bid of Turner Supply Company
on above equipment. Motion carried.
Mr. Kirk presented requests for six street lights in various parts of the
City. Motion by Councilman Ruffles seconded by Councilman Shull that the
City Manager and Electric Superintendent be authorized to install street
lights as t-Ssted;by MrT. Kirk where they think they are necessary providing
the cost does not exceed $ IOO.00.A .Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Belew that the following
bills be approved for payment: Motion carried.
