County of Baldwin
The City Councilof the City of Fairhope met in regular session at the
City Hall,, Monday, February 24, 1958 with the following members present --
Mayor E. B. Overton, City Manager C. B. Niemeyer, Councilmen: C.F.Belew,
M. 0. Berglin, J. F. McDaniel, W. R. Ruffles, Jr. and B.L. Shull.
The minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and on motion by
Councilman Belea seconded by Councilman McDaniel were approved as read.
Motion carried.
Mr. Mueller of Steele andAssociates, Inc. met with the Council in regards
to corrosion survey of gas transmission lines in order to obtain informa.-
tiom necessary to design an adequate and efficient cathodic protection system.
Motion by Councilman Ruffles seconded by Councilman Belew that the City
Manager check the standing of Steele and Associates, Inc. and, if satin—
factory, proceed with the corrosion survey as outlined in Steele and
Associates letter to the City Council. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Ruffles seconded by Councilman Belew that the request
of the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation pertaining to Business License be
referred to the Committee appointed to study license Ordinance. Motion
carried.
Motion by Councilman Ruffles seconded by Councilman Belew that the License
Ordinance Committee report to the Council at their next meeting the
committees interpretation of the License Schedule under which the Fairhope
dingle Tax Corporation should be listed. Motion carried.
The following bids were received for addition to the City Jails
George Stejdkal $2,183.00, Alternate 2, #150.00; M. Dyson Bldg. Co.
$2,613,13, Alternate 2, $t20.00; Charles B. Cummins, $2,073.00, Alternate 2,
$89.00
Motion by C ouncilman Belew seconded by Councilman McDaniel that the low,
bid of Charles B. Cummins be accepted and the Mayor be authorized and
directed.to enter.into contract with Mr. Cummins for addition to the City
Jail. Motion carried.
A petition from property owners of North Mobile Avenue, from 659 Mobile
Avenue to Grand Ave., for paving was read and placed on file.
Motion by Councilman Berlin seconded by Councilman Ruffles that the
application of George Stejskal to remodel building at 51 S. Section Street
be approved as submitted. Motion carried.
A petition was presented to the Council relative to trailers in the vicinity
of Oak Haven Cottages. No action taken.
Motion by Councilman Ruffles seconded by Councilman McDaniel that no
political signs be permitted across highways within the City Limits.
Upon being put to vote the following vote was recorded: For: Councilmen
Berglin, McDaniel and Ruffles. Against: Councilmen Belew and Shull.
Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman McDaniel seconded by Councilman Shull that the next
regular meeting of the City Council be postponed to March 12, 1958 due
to the Alabama League of Municipalities Convention being held in Mobile
on March 9, 10 and 11. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman McDaniel' seconded by Councilman Berglin that the
meeting adjourn. Motion carried.
