that 'l,r. EIIis would complete plans, showing property lines, markirg area,
etc. and present it at a special meeting of the City C o.:ncil on June 20 at
7:30 P.1,%- at which time the Council will hold a public hearing on the project.

This is in reply to your request for a detailed analysis of the funds
required by the Park and Recreation Board over a fbur:x months period.
Accounts payable in the month of May -
I. Authorised at your council meeting on Thursday night
May 9th, for earth moving at Senior High School Grounds,
Approximately $ 750.00
Accounts payable in the month of June -
I. Materials And labor for foundation and tiers supporting
prestressed concrete slabs for stadium $1,732.00
II. For Colored people (Total request $1,000.00)
500.00
III. Playground equipment and fencing play area for the beach
and p2enic area, north of Casino 1,500.00
IV, To light Shuffleboard Courts west of Red Cross Building
and build shelters and benches on each end of courts 1,000.00
Total $4,732.00

(City to furnish labor)

Below are excerpts from the minutes of the Baldwin
County Board of Education relative to recreational facilities
on the Fairhope High School property and the land on South
Section Street near the Anna T. Jeanes School as requested in
your letter.
Special Meeting No. 4
May 16, 1957
The Baldwin County Board of Education met in Special
Session No. 4 in the office of the Superintendent, Bay Minette,
Alabama, May 16, 1957 at 9:00 A.M. The meeting was called to
order by the President, Dr. W. C. Mason, ........ 00.00.0....

Dr. Mason reported on the Fairhope Park and Recreation
Board's proposed construction of a football stadium and im-
proved recreational facilities by the City of Fairhope on the
Fairhope High School site and recreational facilities on the
old Anna T. Jeanes site. The Board approved the proposals
provided the construction and use did not interfere with the
activities or use of the Fairhope School and the Anna T. Jeanes
School.
There being no further business at this time, the Board
adjourned.

Gentlemen:
We refer to our conversations of May 7, 1957 pertaining to
the use of recreational facilities on the Fairhope High
School property. It is our understanding that the city of
Fairhope will expend certain funds for the construction of
a football stadium, as well as improving other recreational
facilities on this property.
In accordance with your request, we wish to advise you of our
wholehearted support of the program and you can be assured of
our continued co-operation. We also wish to assure the city
of Fairhope and your board that the general public in your
area will be permitted to utilize the recreational facilities
on this property to the greatest extent possible. We con-
dition this authority only on the premises that such use by
the public will not interfere with the activities or use by
the Fairhope High School.

placing of recreational facilities on the tract of land, con-
taining approximately seven (7) acres, which is located on
South Section Street close to the Anna. T. Jean School.
This property is not being used by the School Board at this
time and in accordance with your request the City of Fairhope
and your Board may develop said property for park and recrea-
tional purposes for the colored people. We also wish to assure
the City of Fairhope and your Board that the general public in
your area will be permitted to utilize the recreational facili-
ties on this property to the greatest extent possible. We
condition this authority only on the premises that such use
by the public will not interfere with the activities or use
by the Anna T. Jean School and County School Board.

After many hours of study and planning, the Park and Recreation Board
is now ready to report its Plans to the City Council and to request its
approval of these plans and further, respectfully requests the Council
to make funds available as needed for the Boardls Current Projects in
the total sum of $20,000.00 listed in order of their urgency by the Board.
I. A GAME FIELD STADIUM, FENCE, AND LIGHTS to be located on the
Senior High School grounds. Itemized Cost:
Stadium, of prestressed concrete, waterproofed

The Board has requested them to indicate what
they would like to have — Board feels that a Softball
Field would probably be the most practical &
one can probably be moved from present park.
Baldwin County Board of Education has 7 acres
about one block from Anna T. JeanesSChool and
they indicated they would make this land available

RECOMMENDATION: The Park and Recreation Board recommends to the
City Counci12 that if it should become necessary for the City to
issue Bonds to care for the above needst that not more than 50%
of the net Tax revenue be pledged to retire these Bonds. This
would enable the Park and Recreation Board to have funds avail—
able to continue its work Oith no interruption.
